Of course
It's as if this nation learned nothing from its support of the apartheid state in South Africa.
Cool non sequitur bro

Um
Markos Moulitsas is no fan of rightwing governments. But even he's outraged:
Hamas is evil
I hope that subject is clear enough for everyone, even Lecil, and isn't too glib or snarky to obfuscate its meaning or anything.
However, Hamas didn't take over the PLO in Gaza overnight and the organization and its evil beliefs and desires didn't spawn from Israel treating Palestinians well and working towards an equitable solution to the destruction of the region by the post-WWII decisions of Europe that Israel has entirely benefitted from.
For literal generations, Israel has treated Palestine, Palestinians and Palestinian land, as a pet. It has abused them like an abusive owner. And Hamas is the result of generations of that abuse and now the abused pet has bit its owner worse than at any point prior. That's not something to be encouraged or proud about or happy it happened or cheer or anything else. But it's definitely understandable. It's definitely not shocking or surprising it happened (as it seems to be to some who woke up on Sunday and couldn't believe the news).
Sorry if I'm not rushing to kiss the wounds of the abusive owner. In the fallout of the Sharpeville massacre, the UN instituted a voluntary arms embargo against South Africa (the US and UK chose not to participate). And after the Soweto uprising, more of the world joined in boycotting South Africa and isolating it...but Reagan and Thatcher doubled down on supporting the apartheid government through the 80s.
And when the US and UK finally came around to cracking down on South Africa...suddenly, with basically no real allies left, apartheid broke.
So, yeah, having our government and NGOs and others rushing to aid Israel in this "moment of need" because of all the truly heinous things Hamas just did is very touching. It also shows we've learned nothing from our past errors. Which is what I've expressed. We don't need a rally for the abusive owner.
abused pets…
don’t rape women or murder entire families.
This you?
There is no justification for
There is no justification for what Hamas has done and will keep doing. The Palestinian cause will only be hurt by the terrible crimes that they committed. And in recent years, US public opinion has turned more pro-Palestine. I doubt that trend will continue
While we are talking about "no justification"
There is also no justification for fascism, apartheid policies, disenfranchisement, torture, collective punishment, rape, and summary execution because some soldier is having a bad day.
All of which Israel as a state engages in. https://www.amnesty.org/en/location/middle-east-and-north-africa/israel-...
No justification?
While no one is claiming Israel is perfect, actions like the ones you described are generally not condoned in Israel. Israeli soldiers are routinely prosecuted for infractions, even if it may not be as frequently as one would wish. Israel would never intentionally kill civilians or allow rape and kidnapping as a policy, but Hamas, and really Gazans as a whole, evidently have no issues doing so.
This is not the place to get into arguments about the Middle East, since we have enough to worry about in Boston. However, I think the fact that Israel even bothers to try to avoid civilian casualties speaks volumes to the difference between it and Hamas. Not to mention that only one side even attempts to respect women, LGBTQ, people of different religions and ethnicities, different cultures, etc. Personally, if I’m picking a side, it’s going to be that one.
Seriously?
You know, it is possible to express support for Palestinian civilians and the hope for improvement in their lives without celebrating the massacre of babies, elders, and concert goers by terrorists...
And don't pretend that isn't what you just did with that glib snark you posted.
Will the DSA be counter
Will the DSA be counter-protesting?
Yes
And they basically are saying that it’s OK that Hamas massacred 260 civilians at a music festival. And the parading of a woman’s body around Gaza cheering. We need peace and a two state solution, but Hamas wants the total destruction of Jews and what they did, backed by Iran, will do nothing to help the Palestinians or further a two state solution. All it did was guarantee further misery.
Got a cite?
Citation needed.
The DSC
is supposed to stand against toxic masculinity. That is until a Hamas soldier wants to rape an Israeli girl.
Hate rides the rails
Whichever side you support be careful and respectful when you are riding the T to the rallies and the protests.
