The Dorchester Reporter details the longest of this year's MBTA "surge" repair shutdowns: The 24-day closing of the Red Line's Braintree branch, which starts Friday.
The Braintree branch shutdown is one of the better just for the fact there is already parellel rail service that can stand in for situations like this. That's why having redundancy can be great. Still not ideal, but certainly better than other shutdowns on the various lines that fully relied upon bus service.

I like the plan.
Free commuter rail service with extra cars really takes the sting out for work commuters.
If the end result is a 12 minute quicker and more reliable ride into Boston from Braintree I’d call it a win.
Yeah

Will the Commuter Rail be free during this period?
Just curious.
