The Boston Fire Department reports a fire that started in the rear of a three decker at 7 Carson St. in Dorchester around 5 a.m. quickly spread to its neighboring buildings.

Several people and pets were rescued from the buildings, including two elderly people in a third-floor unit. No residents were injured, but one firefighter suffered minor injuries, the department says, adding:

Narrow walkways between the triple deckers of Dorchester are making access difficult from front of buildings. Multiple power lines across front made it hard to use aerial ladders.
