Revere reports mail woes
By adamg on Wed, 09/18/2024 - 10:26am
The Revere Journal reports the Revere City Council is demanding answers from the US Postal Service on why mail delivery in the city sucks, just like in Brighton and Mission Hill.

If you are voting by mail-in ballot….
Please drop off your ballot at a post office or drop-box located in an area with decent service, and do that as early as possible. Or vote in person.
Also..
Make sure you drop your ballot off in a ballot drop box ONLY in the city or town where you are registered. During the Decker/MacKay recount, there was a Cambridge ballot that was deposited in a Malden ballot drop box and this ballot was not counted.
If you aren't mailing, and are registered in Boston, you have until 8pm on election day to deposit your ballot in one of the city's ballot drop boxes.
Drop box deadline may vary by city and town
For the state primary, Cambridge required that voters had to deposit ballots in drop boxes no later than the day before the election. Somerville allowed use of drop boxes on election day, but only until 6 pm. In both cities, you could still drop off your ballot at election headquarters until 8 pm on election day.
Thanks..
Just updated my comment so the 8pm time is Boston-specific.
Good
I'm completely on board with the vote of someone that ignorant not being counted.
Did they think a Malden official was going to hop in their car, drive over to Cambridge, and deliver the ballot for them?
Like everywhere
Sorry Revere, you aren't special in this case. The issue is everywhere.
I do love how these people complained to the city. Uh. The post office is a federal service, city can't do much except request someone to come speak... who will just read a bunch of statements that everyone already knows.
Pointless. You'd have better luck writing letters to the Postmaster General to get real answers.
You're really only going to get results
If you bring your Congressional representation into the picture. The Postal Service pretty much ignores anyone unless they have regulatory or financial power over it.

I read the Revere Journal article but...
In no way is that implying that the situation is worse than Mission Hill.
Have any members of the Revere City Council gone to the post office responsible for mail distribution in their area and found an unsorted pile of non-delivered mail?
That's what is happening in the Mission Hill area.
