Simmons students rescue a pigeon at the BPL

Tristie-Mattea Ortiz reports how two classmates and she sprung into action while studying at the Copley Square library last month when they spotted a pigeon who needed help - he had "a visibly broken wing and missing toe." They were preparing to take it back on the Green Line to try to rehab it in their dorm - luckily, one of them was an avid birder - when they got a call back from 311 and were redirected to the MSPCA in Jamaica Plain, where, on the long trek over, they named the bird Freduardo.

I am very glad that they didn't take the insect infested bird back to the dorms but I hope they feed it to a rescued bobcat.

Unfortunately.

Neither are individuals who do not suffer the plague of pigeon infestation.

… who coexist peacefully with pigeons and change the ratio so that more people suffer from pigeon phobias?

Strange desire for increasing general misery, but I’m sure you have your reasons.

So a person tells you that most people don't mind pigeons, and you insult them? What is your point exactly?

Rock doves are an invasive species. I don't hate them. I just think it is not productive to save every hurt animal that you see. Your existence is killing many animals. Better to try and respect the circle of life. We need to support native biodiversity instead of superficial social media opportunities.

I was raised to understand that death exists. I certainly don't want any animal to suffer but keeping it alive is unnatural. These pigeons are feral domestic birds that were brought here to be eaten.

They want to live like any animal. That is what is natural. Not elitist animal domestication and exploitation. Bobcats don’t eat pigeons but humans do.
Broken wings and other things can be healed.
Human overpopulation is the real issue.

Anyone who says that should start with themselves to find a cure for this supposed issue.

You are such a pathetic glob of smegma. A dollar store Malthusian.

… ad hominem attacks.

Cheerio!

Your misanthropy isn't based in scientific reality: https://e360.yale.edu/features/consumption_dwarfs_population_as_main_env...

Overpopulation is both an antiquated anti-density NIMBY talking point fallacy for the irony-challenged, and a toxic pseudoscientific "theory" that has morphed into a highly racist argument for all sorts of nonsense.

If you want to go there, at least understand what you are affiliating yourself with.

The Sierra Club has had an interesting history engaging this fallacy, including a decades-long right wing infestation of its local chapters by VDare enabling the "I got mine and fuck you" nimby elements ... so this national level piece is relevant: https://www.sierraclub.org/washington/blog/2020/01/overpopulation-myth-a...

… over consumption. In any species that can manipulate their environment.

Take into account human tendencies. Humans are not exempt. That’s how we got here in the first place.

People who chose to procreate sometimes have a difficult time understanding this.

"Truthy sounding" arguments and reality are different things.

A lot of what you are saying has been debunked for the filth that it covers.

Before you can make that argument, you must first define "overconsumption". What's your definition?

Bossypants, first you need to direct that comment to the correct person.

And explain why you never make an original comment. Why you hang like turd off other poster’s assholes.

Cheerio!

You can make all the "rational sounding" arguments you want.

I provided some links to information that link to further information on the subject. It is now your turn to ground your assertions in something beyond your cranium.

Just be aware of how the history of what you are asserting by fiat is heavily entwined with pseudoscience and rationalizations for some pretty unsavory bullshit.

FYI: my links define overconsumption as distinct from overpopulation. I think lbb asking you to address your definition of overconsumption was appropriate.

I never realized it, but you’re absolutely right - lbb has never had an original comment. Damn, great observation!

Nimrod, you're the one who brought in the term "overconsumption". You can say what you mean by it, or you can admit that you're blowing hot air as usual.

And explain why you never make an original comment. Why you hang like turd off other poster’s assholes.

Lol. Boy who can't define his terms resorts to ad hominems. How do you propose to have a discussion if you refuse to define your terms?

A bunch of students learned that the best route for dealing with injured wildlife is to turn to expert resources, not DIY.

Hopefully the press this gets will alert others to those options.

all animals do. I am not sure it is kind to feed and comfort feral livestock that live on our trash. I don't know if they carry bird flu, but many crows died in the last couple years.

Seriously? I mean, huge points for saving the pigeon, but what a name to give the poor thing.

I would've called it Midge the Pidge and be done with it, myself.
