Truck driver slams into Watertown restaurant, possibly shutting it for several weeks, then drives away
By adamg on Mon, 07/01/2024 - 3:57pm
Jana Grill and Bakery on Watertown Street in Watertown reports that at somebody in a red truck drove into its front entrance at 2:19 a.m., backed up and drove away.
The restaurant is now closed for at least several weeks due to all the damage, Jana reports.
"This is shocking news to us and we are still processing."
Just last week, the Boston Licensing Board approved plans by Jana owner Suren Keryan open a second, larger Jana on Linden Street in Allston.

If you are a cafe/bakery ...
Cars will hit you!
Was the bakery wearing a helmet? Did it have high viz clothing? I'm sure there is probably a pair of headphones on the ground within a 1/4 mile that could explain all of this ...
You've got to understand
That was part of Marty's rationale: you had to just understand this fact of life!
Truck crashes into bakery
What did I miss? how is this funny?
It's a running gag around
It's a running gag around here @Eileen. Goes way, way, back.
Seven years, in fact!
That's when Marty said the following:
For a while, when I was spending more time in The Bad Place, I had a keyboard shortcut on my phone so if I typed ygtu (you've got to understand" it would autocomplete to "you've got to understand, cars are going to hit you" -- @martywalsh (or whatever his twitter was)
Smash and grab?
This driver, if caught, needs to lose their license for a very long time for hit and run.
Just feet from where a man
Just feet from where a man stabbed a tow truck driver who had fatally struck his mother in 2018. The driver actually ran into Jana for help.
Speaking of restaurants, a Popeye's is coming just up the hill on Centre St., next to Bertucci's, in the former Subway space. Still under construction, but the sign is up, which I noticed walking by yesterday.
It seems like an intersection
It seems like an intersection that could use some safety improvements. It's a pretty big unwieldy intersection, and the Nonantum Road side (which based on the direction is a plausible place the car came from) is the last stretch of quasi-highway from the Storrow Drive/Soldiers Field Road, so in the middle of the night a reckless driver could go pretty fast down that and then come into the intersection.
Of course, one thing that has in fact happened is that alongside the new development there they did redesign the bus yard so busses no longer pull into the intersection right next to Nonantum. But seems like there's more you could do to build off that.
Stupd is as stupid does
The problem with making something idiotproof is that they're constantly making better idiots. That being said. there is currently a plan making it's way through Watertown government to revamp Watertown Square. So if you think it's bad now..... Baawaahaahaa
That explains the apple glass
That explains the compressed wood panels and lack of wonderful grilling smell while I wait for the light.
