Mayor Wu kindly invited to Washington to be eviscerated in front of Fox News over our sanctuary status now that our governor has stepped out of the battle
Boston.com posts a copy of the genial invite from House Oversight Committee Chair James Comer, who is now heavily invested in sniffing out immigrants under all the beds now that he can no longer continue his crusade against Hunter Biden, given Biden's pardon and the fact that Comer's star witness against him has pleaded guilty to making up shit about the Bidens (and also evading taxes).
Comer calls Boston an "abject failure" for its sanctuary status along with Chicago, Denver and New York, whose mayors were also "asked" to testify, although we suspect New York's indicted mayor will get a softer reception given to how he's now offering major political tongue to the Convicted Felon in Chief.
Comer wants every single document, e-mail and text, basically ever, that Wu and other Boston officials have ever written or exchanged about the city's pledge to not help ICE bust into every last church and bodega in search of brown people, especially in a state that has a court ruling specifically telling local police and officials not to cooperate with federal agents in tactical gear stomping around looking for people not charged with what the Commonwealth considers crimes - not that you'd know we have such precedent by listening to our governor declaring we are not a sanctuary state and so have nothing to fear from ICE.

Now, Adam...
Our governor has assured us that ICE is only here for criminals, and I'm sure they're telling the truth and that's all it'll be, maybe a few asoziale Elementen at most and then it'll definitely end there
“Criminals,” “violent
“Criminals,” “violent criminals,” is just the spoonful of sugar, and only those who are, or were experiencing denial were deaf to the reality of “all those of illegal status”, including visa laggards, are in peril of repatriation.
P.s., I realize the fortune
P.s., I realize the fortune cookieism that “there are no illegal people,” sounds reasonable, but “illegals” is a term of art in monitoring foreign nationals, so isn’t MSNBC engaging in obfuscatory, misleading language in correcting (and thereby editorializing and opinioneering) the on air use of the term “illegals?” I mean, of course a person in their being can’t be illegal. But, by censoring a word you are creating a hurtle, a barrier in public discourse.
"Creating a hurtle"
A hurtle? Is that another term O' fart?
I had assumed
They'd force complice by cities by withholding grants. But now it looks like the feds are withholding grants to all cities, even the "loyal" ones, probably to squeeze every penny into further tax cuts for billionaires.
So I didn't know what they plan to threaten Wu with. It's clear Trump and friends will try to make Boston in particular suffer as much as possible irrespective of any backpedaling Wu could possibly do. (Not that I think she will.)
I suppose it's possible they could offer to take the knee off the neck if Boston elects Kraft. I guess that's one way he could win.
Get some
“Sleep.”
Good Opportunity
To promote "The Safest City In America" to a national audience.
We may bicker about our crime issues at a local level. But some of our stats are really impressive compared to national peers - especially homicide and violent rates. And we have a very diverse, very immigrant rich, community.
Since the current veneer of the R's mass deportation pogrom is 'public safety' and 'national security', Her Honor can educate the Chair how public safety is achieved (receipts in hand) not thru terrorizing large swathes of a city, but by doing the hard work of building trust and dialogue among residents and officials, and respecting the dignity and lives of each of those residents. And this is how to identify and eliminate actual threats to safety and security and peace - rather than the bogus images ginned up by demogogues and political opportunists.
. . that's what can be learned from the mayor of "The Safest City In America".
Like the state of MA?
Forcing compliance of the Communities Act by with holding money and threatening law suits. It goes to show you it doesn’t matter what side of the isle you stand politically - don’t do what the masters say and they’ll throw down the hammer.
Nice try, but theres no comparison
MBTA Communities is a law that was passed by our legislature and implementation has been advanced by both republican and democratic gubernatorial administrations. The current president’s intent to withhold already obligated funding as a form of retribution is contrary to laws passed by congress and is an obvious violation of the separation of powers.
Replace ‘MBTA Communities’ with
‘Undocumented immigrants’ and ‘current president’ with ‘AG Campbell’ and it all still works. Weird.
No,It doesn’t work.
Because “undocumented immigrants” is not a law, it’s an obsession of the Orange Guy. As soon as congress passes a law stating that states and municipalities “shall” cooperate with ICE or have their funding revoked, then you might have a point.
shhh
Grownups are talking.
You obviously
See this as some sort of overstep by the current MA AG for some reason but please remind us who signed this piece of legislature into law, also seeming to signify they were ready to enforce it?
I'll give you a hint, it wasn't Maura Healey.
Did you just wake up from your long winter's nap?
Or are you just not in touch with the news cycle?
Ayyyup
Ayyyup. MBTA CA (diktat) moved forward in the dark of night.
"Laser Focused"
He's gonna be "Laser Focus" on liberal states like CA, NY, and MA. Any person, place, or thing that pushed back in his first term will now have big targets on their backs.
of course "laser focus" is as good as you can be when you're going senile and in mental decline.
Regardless, we're in for a bumpy ride.
Whose lasers?

Sounds similar to the state
Sounds similar to the state refusing grants if towns don’t comply with MBTA Communities Act.
Not quite
The legislature adopted MBTA communities—including the part about withholding funding—and it’s the administration’s job to implement it. You know what would be a better analogy for what Trump is doing? If the administration said “oh well some people don’t like this law so we will just give grants anyway even if they haven’t complied with the law.”
“…regular “interview” on
“…regular “interview” on Boston Public Radio…”
Try, regular platform for back-scratching, praise and nothing ever substantially more than a token softball question that may elicit a firm talking point, maybe a whiff of first order explanation, but no debate. “‘GBH” will never risk burning their bridges, or turning off their chosen audience, so their “interviewees” will never come out tarnished. There’s nothing these top pols say that can’t be said in half the time, and there’s nothing we learn from them that can’t be learned from a staffer, or local expert.
BPR cut these Mayor/Governor/AG bully pulpit hours by half and follow up with an hour and a half of reputable local poli-sci folk who adhere to the spirit of fair discourse and debate!!!
I’m not saying there’s nothing to learn from these BPR State and Local Leadership Platforms, it’s better than Jim and Margery going on and on about doilies, or whateverthefuck they pad their time with and waste our time with. There’s too much to discuss to be wasting time on inane “who’s the a-hole” social media gazing.
Give the people ‘Talk of the Nation,’ back.
Sure, the audience may be streaming-off to their safe podcast and streaming bubbles, free from discomfort, but the free airwaves of the FM and AM dial are the town square and are a pillar of democracy. “NPR*” (*et al.) has a responsibility to the people, their purpose is not to be a springboard for commercial enterprise. NPR’s mission has been poisoned by underwriters not saved by them.
NPR will soon be gone
Getting rid of it is high on the new administration's priority list. Local stations like WGBH and WBUR are going to be left to fend for themselves, I think.
1% & 10% cuts can be weathered
NPR stations get less than 1% of their funding directly from the federal government and about 10% indirectly.
It's a common misconception that an overwhelming majority of their budget is coming from the feds but that was never true and even at its peak before the mid-80s it was only a bit more than half.

Thank you
Once again you provide some sanity gauge here, tachometer :P
This is correct. NPR and to a lesser extend PBS do not get much funding from the Fed. Much of it comes from "Viewers like you" along with large private donations
NPR is a network
It's not WGBH or WBUR, which are independently owned affiliates -- and customers -- of that network.
WGBH and WBUR will survive, but the network known as NPR probably won't -- not as we know it, anyway.
Thanks
I try to put things in context where I can to cut down some of the static.
NPR has already died. In
NPR has already died. In their greed, avarice and fear of dying they no longer live as the entity they once were. They have become what they once opposed.
pot, meet kettle
I’m working on concision.
I’m working on concision.
Props to you for that.

Is this an intervention?
Haha!
This quote says it all
“In reality, our job at the city level, especially, but I would say, in government in general, is to understand the law, is to follow the law, and to know to go by facts, rather than just sort of made up stuff,” she said before referencing Trump’s executive order to end birthright citizenship, which was quickly blocked by a federal judge.
I look forward to her calling the Trump administration bigots to their face.
This will likely help her reelection campaign more than anything she can do on her own!
# WuTrain
Healy read the tea leaves
While Wu has the stubbornness of a toddler. For the most part, Americans have voiced that tax dollars we provide the government should be spent on improving their day to day life and not be spent on migrants. Ernie Adams had a good break down of what a sanctuary city technically means on Tucker Carlson podcast, assimilate into society and pay taxes via wages or sales tax (obv more too it and I suggest the listen) it is not hitting the lottery where everything is paid for and you can do what you want while the actual taxpayers go without. Mayor Adams also had some gems about the bike lane mafia towards the end of the episode.
I dislike NYC but for once I am jealous of their leadership in comparison to ours. And before ppl start throwing out he was indicted etc… take a listen to him on that podcast. He was indicted for pretty much nothing only after he voiced concerns about migrants draining his coffers for over $6B and didn’t play nice after he was told to be “a good democrat”.
Is this that "masculine energy" I've been hearing about?
.
lol anon
lolz
Ernie Adams?
I think you mean NYC Mayor Eric Adams. Former Patriots mystery man Ernie Adams's privacy level never goes below 11, and he does not do talk shows, political or otherwise.
A couple
He did Edelman’s podcast a couple times. Was amazing, just way too long.
Fascist Fanboy
Fawning.
Sad.
How embarrassing for you
to admit that you listen to a podcast by that risible Putin stooge, the unspeakably smarmy, awful, effectively traitorous Tucker Carlson.
Why do you hate America? Have you too fallen under the spell of Russia's ingenious coin-unlock shopping carts?

Good one!
If only...
Our local leaders could aspire to taking bribes from Turkey or other foreign nations and then shopping for a pardon. That's the kind of leadership we're really missing here, for certain.
What is this "verify I'm human" crap?
Make it go away, please. It's annoying
There must be a practical reason for it.
Meanwhile, I rejoice in the knowledge and reassurance that I still pass as a human being.

I'm Seeing That Everywhere
Just about every site that I go to now has that human verification box. I'm also seeing more of the "hold here" buttons. Is this just some way to try and keep things like AI sites from scraping data?
It’s usually the content
It’s usually the content distribution networks like cloudflare. Also I find that Google does it consistently if I am using a VPN and never if I’m coming from an IP address that is identifiable. They make their momey by knowing who you are….
Adam troubleshooting?
I think Adam might be blocking DOS attempts. I'm cool with whatever he needs to do to keep this resource available.
Mayor Wu
I am confident that Mayor Wu will be a great witness, and will further enhance her ambitions by her performance.
The People with Brains Party
Vs Trump's Fart Breathers
The Temple of Satan failed ….
…. to drag her away from her duties as mayor.
But I imagine the true Satan will have his way.
Don't go, Your Honor
The invitation should be refused. Screw 'em.
Yes
She's red meat for the fascists. There's nothing that can be gained by participating in the sideshow
I hope she accepts the invite
I hope she accepts the invite, and shows up at the committee with baby, diaper bag, formula, nursing supplies, asks where their lactation room is, makes the committee room smell like Desitin, goes upside their heads with some choice statistics amount immigration & crime & how much the city/state bails out the Fed gov't, and oh yeah mention the covid death toll here from the last time Drumpf tried to tamper with fed aid to states on a nationwide issue, and generally makes them rue the day they ever decided to F with her.
I predict
Little Baby Wu will make a stinky poo and those in the back of the room will think the President is visiting.
How this will play out
Wu is no dummy and is a good public speaker. She will make a ton of excellent points, but Fox news (et al) will find ONE THING that she says and twist it and play that on repeat for 24 hours.

Apparently
Making America Great Again means reviving HUAC.
One term Mayor?
She looks like a deer in the headlights when the slightest challenging question is asked
Really?
She's been in politics long enough to have a quick, if sometimes inconsequential, answer to most questions.
i find it very interesting
that the ability to answer a question quickly is valued much more highly than the ability to answer correctly
Indeed!
I admire anyone who has the self discipline to be able to think before opening their mouth and therefore give a thoughtful response.
Don't look at it through your favorite "lens"
Maybe listen to and not watch interviews?
Politely listening to a question being asked isn't the weakness you think it is.
Would you know?
I'd bet money that you're blathering and have never seen her respond to ANY question.
