The Boston Public Library today said it is clearing outstanding book fines for library-card holders under 18 - and will no longer charge them late fees - effective Nov. 1. Read more.

The BPL branch in Roslindale Square is set to close later this year for some major renovation work (don't worry - they're keeping the dome). The Friends of the Roslindale Branch Library has been working with local businesses to set up micro-libraries around the neighborhood so people can still get a book to read - and is giving away libraries in a box that residents can put outside their homes to keep the books flowing.

Hey. Come here. I wanna tell you a story. At the Holy Name/Catholic Memorial dances I attended in my youth I never "grinded" with any boys. After one of the HN/CM dances I did find $211 on the ground when I went to buy some gum at White Hen Pantry. Westie continues its tradition of giving with this all-ages poetry contest courtesy of Friends of the West Roxbury Branch Library.

The Boston Public Library said today it's making hotspot kits - which will let borrowers share an Internet connection with up to 15 other users - available for 21-day loans at all of its branches and the central library in Copley Square.

The devices connect to T-Mobile's Boston network. Anybody with a BPL card can borrow one of the gizmos.

City officials this morning formally opened the new Chinatown branch in the China Trade Center, on Boylston Street at Washington. The location is intended to be open for three to five years as the city looks for a location for a permanent branch. Read more.
