Thanks for the comment! I did mean to get a flukey fluke shot :)
Anyone know . . .
. . . the chances of seeing whales on one of these tours? I've always wanted to do a whale watch tour but I don't want to end up just seeing miles of blue ocean and no whales. How common or rare is it to see whales on such tours?
Largely a matter of luck
Usually one sees at least some whales (maybe only at a distance -- but there is no guarantee. We once went on a whale watch along the most whale-populated stretch of the St. Lawrence (north of Quebec) -- and saw nothing at all. We had better luck here -- and had a pair of whales diving under our boat and back -- and breathing their very stinky whale breath right at us. ;~}
whale tours
I've been out on the Aquarium's whale tour boat three times over many years and saw whales each time, albeit only once up close. The other two times they were at a distance (closest maybe 75 yards) and so it was cool but not incredible. Taking the ferry down to P-Town I've seen dolphins bounding alongside the boat and whales (at a distance). Then got to hang out and have something to eat in P-Town and see more wildlife on the ride back (not to mention the wildlife in P-Town).
