The tour was late morning, and we were told when we started that it was the lunch hour for most of the workers, and that we would not see too much actual work going on at the hour. Sure enough, the canteen truck was there as we were shown the facility.

Also, when I asked about taking photos, I was told no problem at all, but that some of the workers might prefer to not be in pictures (while others might sing and dance for the camera :)

Given the harassment that photographers (including myself) have experienced on the T, I was pleased that we were free to photograph whatever we wanted (without straying off the tour path) in a non-public facility.

There was plenty of activity

A bunch of people were on lunch break when we came in, and there was a food truck. Also the guides asked us to avoid photographing people unless we got permission from them.

But we did see them bringing parts around, fueling locomotives, and moving them into and out of the shop.

I think they avoided doing some of the noisier and dirtier work while we were around. We were only wearing safety goggles.

As noted above, it was lunch time for most of them. They backed a canteen truck right on one of the tracks inside the facility and everyone gathered around. We were also instructed to avoid taking pictures with employees in them, since some of them are very weary of having their picture taken.

As others have said, they were taken during their lunch hour. I also made a concerted effort to avoid people in the shots. Many people feel uncomfortable having their photo taken. So made sure to either avoid or crop them out.

Thanks for sharing - I've said it before and once again - we are spoiled because we see them all the time but the MBTA has probably the best color scheme of any railroad in the country - looking forward to seeing it on the new Utah locos.
