Citizen complaint of the day: They were too lazy to even get their crap out to the street
By adamg on Tue, 09/03/2013 - 11:37am
As you might expect, Citizens Connect this morning is filled with reports from Allston/Brighton, Fenway, Mission Hill, Beacon Hill and that bit of Roxbury along Columbus Avenue about student leftovers clogging up the sidewalks. But so far, only one concerned citizen has reported a lobby filling up with Allston Christmas remains, in this case, the lobby of 1152 Comm. Ave. in Allston:
This is a fire hazard, trash is blocking hallways and elevator exit. Trash is also blocking landings in stair wells.
UPDATE: Bianca, who took the photo, reports the mess was cleaned up last night - but that the hallway promptly began filling up with more stuff.

Can't you just call your landlord already?
Citizen's connect for this? Call your property manager. Jeesh.
Landlord part of the problem?
Perhaps they are reporting this to the city to get Inspectional Services after the landlord/property manager, having already failed to get the landlord to give a crap about the problem.
Careful What You Throw Away
My favorite report is this one, with someone's prescription details spelled out for all to see.

Yikes
Yikes. This is exactly why I shred all of my RX paperwork - including peeling the labels off bottles and shredding those.
Junk
The past couple of years we've started to see this in South Boston. I guess this is what being a 'world-class city' is all about.
(yawn)
Out-of-towner, Dinosaur(not verified)-9/3/13-12:10pm, dismayed that life in big bad scary dirty city not pristine enough for his 'world class city' expectations.
property management fail
i really wish property managers would:
a. anticipate move out day
b. let their tenants know how/when/where to throw out things,
c. be present during move out day to make sure their building is not impacting the neighborhood
But even then
The trash area for my building is completely full, which led to someone dumping a lot of trash around the full bins. And trash pickup where I am isn't until Friday, so heaven help you if you have regular trash to throw out between now and then.
Does the city plan for this week of extra garbage pickup? I don't see anything on the main waste disposal website.
Landlord again
The landlord, knowing that they are having a lot of turnover in their apartments, can easily hire a private dumpster service. They could lock it and have someone there to open it when tenants need to throw out their junk, or give the tenants copies of the keys.
Humongous dumpster
Yeah, the managers of our 200-and-some-unit Fenway condo building have an extra 40-yard dumpster brought in for move-in week. That baby fills up, too.
Extra pickup
Yes, the city does plan for extra trash pickups around August 31/September 1. There were garbage trucks making at least one pass a day through my neighborhood Saturday, Sunday, and yesterday, as well as city pickup trucks also circling the neighborhood and hauling away trash.
Even in places you wouldn't expect
On Saturday, we saw a trash truck slowly heading north on Hyde Park Avenue in Forest Hills, digesting couches and mattresses.
Why would you not expect
Why would you not expect move-out day on Hyde Park Avenue? In my experience, Boston's entire rental market (at least in my experience) is dominated by the Sept 1-August 31st lease. I also think many Northeastern/Wentworth students live down that way. It's probably a little cheaper, with easier parking, than over on Huntington Ave.
Well...
Your experience isn't correct.
what do you base your facts
what do you base your facts on?
79% of the rental market in Boston is September 1 move-in according to http://www.bizjournals.com/boston/real_estate/2011...
This means most neighborhoods see major moving on that date, not just Allston.
That's your opinion
That's your opinion
This is why I had to resort
This is why I had to resort to citizens connect. The pile sat there for days without action from the hamilton co.
1. Why are these kids keeping
1. Why are these kids keeping so much God damned garbage in their apartments?
2. Why make it the responsibility of the landlords to cater to these children? They aren't their parents.
3. These children are living in the community because they wanted to play grownup on their parents' money while they get high and maybe attend classes on days when they can steal wifi to watch Family Guy on a shared netflix account. Why not instill some grownup values and fine the shit out of them as much as possible under threat of arrest? Welcome to the real world, kiddos.

Tie an onion to your belt, much?

not bitter at all there, are you gramps?
