Mattapan Square nightclub tries for bottle service

Macumba Latina, 477 River St., finds out tomorrow whether it can legally start offering tableside liquor service.

The Boston Licensing Board votes then on its request to set aside several areas in a VIP area where customers would pay extra for individualized attention from a liquor-serving waitress on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.

The nightclub's attorney, William Rehrey, told the board this morning his clients want to do things right, after being cited by police twice for offering the service without a city license.

The mayor's office opposed the request, however, citing those citations and the fact the owners had not reached out to any of the neighborhood's elected officials or resident groups before the licensing-board hearing.

OH THE HUMANITY! People can't be trusted with an ENTIRE bottle of liquor. When will it end? Should we just sell them IV's filled with tequila??

Paying $300 for a $33 bottle of Goose in the middle of Mattapan.

That's hardly the "middle of Mattapan". It's "in Mattapan", but a mere three minute stroll into Milton.

That said, buying bottle service anywhere in the US is stupid. In most countries it's called "ordering a bottle of liquor" and doesn't cost you the price of the number of shots inside the bottle, times what it would cost to order one shot at the bar. Then again, most countries don't have the bizarre taboos toward alcohol that we have, either. Thanks to these taboos, created by the ridiculous drinking age, we can't have nice things like affordable bottles of liquor at dinner or at a club because every Sully in town turns into Frankie Fistfights once he's had one too many Jamesons.

So this thought exercise has me fearful for what Boston would look like with cheaper bottle service. *chills*

Yet it is.

Go figure!

Or even visit, apparently.

Really not sure what you're getting at with this comment, particularly as this is a well-known nightclub for lots of people in Greater Boston.

Are traveling to Mattapan for their high end restaurants and night club scene. And most people who become wealthy move the F_____ out of Mattpan.

But what do you know, you're probably from Boxboro or some ish......

Some people in Boston aren't afraid of tan people, so they wouldn't think twice if a friend invited them somewhere that eventually got a good rep as a decent place (which I'm guessing is why they are trying to get this license). And others take the "risk" on cheaper property values in the Mattapan Square/Lower Mills/Milton triangle, because they like "ish" like owning property in a market where all that seems to be affordable these days are properties within a five block radius of Upham's Corner.

But what do you know, your parents probably threw rocks at buses coming into Southie...

Also, if you knew anything about history, you'd know that the rich people didn't move out of Mattapan because they became wealthy.

The licensing board has traditionally not liked bottle service anywhere and has made it tough to get.

I wonder if the primary customer base will come from Milton and points further south.
