Tennis players will love this app
Boston tomorrow serves up a beta smartphone app that will let tennis players reserve time on some city courts.
The pilot Play Local app program will be in effect during park hours at public tennis courts at four locations in Boston beginning Friday. Ringer Playground in Allston, Moakley Park in South Boston, and Cassidy Playground in Brighton will feature Play Local reservations from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily, while the Boston Common tennis courts will offer them from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily. Signs will be posted at each court indicating the courts available for reservation.
The app could prove even more of a net win for players seeking others to play against: A way to find people with similar skill levels. The city did not say whether this will involve swiping right.

My wife left me last week.
She's a tennis player. Love means nothing to her.
Reservations on reservations
Hopefully it won't turn out like this video taken in SF:

How long before someone finds fault with it?
Er...
...I guess it sucks to play tennis and not own a smartphone? I mean, I have a smartphone, but if I didn't I would not be real pleased. It seems like it would be a better idea to try this out with more limited hours -- they've basically got every usable hour on those courts reservable through the app, and that seems like it could lock out a lot of people.
You took Ron's joke as a
You took Ron's joke as a serious criticism, but I'll respond.
There are 4 parks in the city of Boston currently listed in the app. Each of these parks has 2 courts. The app shows that at each park, one court can be reserved, and the other is "walk-on".
So, at the very least, not using the app means you can still walk-on. And the app seems very accessible from a web browser, so no phone needed if you plan in advance.
in all fairness
your worth as a human is less if you have a basic phone anyway
Ha! The search box
Ha! The search box autocomplete suggests "Personal Injury Lawyers" when you want to reserve court time.
Street hockey
Can you book the tennis courts to play street hockey?
Good god
I sure hope not.
