Deer Island girl remains unidentified; authorities ask for help
Authorities today released a computer-generated image of what the girl whose body was found on Deer Island may have looked like.
Suffolk County DA Dan Conley said dozens of tips have yet to bring investigators closer to the identity of the girl, aged about 4. A woman walking her dog around Deer Island last week found her body in a plastic bag - along with a zebra-stripe blanket.
Authorities hope the images will jog the memory of a daycare worker, pediatrician or storekeeper who might have seen the girl.
He added she was wearing Circo black and white polka-dot leggings, which are only sold at Target.
Conley said officials are particularly worried that she might have siblings who could be at risk.
At a press conference near where her body turned up, Conley said the medical examiner's has yet to determine a cause of death. He said he her body was not likely at Deer Island long.
He added that a number of people, including workers at the Deer Island sewage treatment plant, have offered to pay her burial costs.
"She deserves dignity and she deserves burial under her true name," he said.

that computer
forgot it wasnt 1992 i think
meaning?
I missed the point of your snark. Care to explain?
snark
you missed the point of 'snark' because you were desperately searching for some where there wasnt any.
the background and hairstyle are reminiscent of school photos from like 20 years ago
Really though....
No matter how much you enjoy being snarky, do you think we needed snark in this thread?
so far
besides a desperate attempt at moral superiority all i've seen you post is a link to a movie review
i suppose you consider that contribution considerably valuable?
if i had wanted to be snarky, i'd have mentioned they'd have better luck if they'd gone with the laser background instead of the blue
Have to agree here
A better computer recreation of a recent photograph shouldn't be styled like one for a child that went missing 25 years ago, complete with umbrella highlight, hair light, and rag painted background. Better software should date not just the people, but hair styles, clothing styles, and photographic styles to all improve accuracy and hope of witness recognition.
Awesome, you got MarkKK to back you up
You must be so proud!
So sad
I was in a conference call and saw the pictures go thru on twitter. So sad.. so so sad :(
On a different note.. amazing composite from the computer. Looks almost like a real photo.
I hope they can find out who she is so she can be laid to rest in peace.
RIP little girl :(
The more people see this, the better the chances that someone will recognize her.
Story is going national
I came here to read the full story after seeing this same post shared through Facebook, posted by a friend in Utica, NY. Say what you will about social media, but damn, it's impressive that word is spreading so quickly. I really hope they're able to identify her quickly.
heartbreaking
Somebody, somewhere has to know her - and there is probably no better method than social media to find someone who recognizes her.
There's a whole online
There's a whole online community that works to identify unidentified bodies when the police go cold...www.websleuths.com or www.doenetwork.org. All volunteers who have done great work in this area. I can guarantee there's a thread for this girl on websleuths right now with people from all over the country diligently working on it.
I don't mean to come off
I don't mean to come off sounding sarcastic or disparaging but are these the same sites that misidentified people as the Marathon bombers?
not at all. you're thinking
not at all. you're thinking of Reddit. Websleuths has strict policies on naming suspects/POIs and investigating those who have not been officially named POIs (they don't do it and ban people who do).
Currents?
Are the currents in that area such that her body could have traveled from further than we're looking?
Don't think it was washed up
From the various crime scene photos in the local media, it looked like they believe the body was driven to Deer Island and left on the beach.
I think the body would be in
I think the body would be in alot worse of a state had she been in the water. She wouldn't still have her eyes (fish get to them first) and they wouldn't have been able to create a composite as fast as they did.
This sad situation reminds me a lot ...
... of an excellent movie:

Out of the way spot
Deer Island a very out of the way location. IMO the person(s) who dumped her body are familiar with it, possibly frequented for fishing, etc.
I also think the chances are pretty good she was Hispanic, most likely from the North Shore area, closer to Boston, maybe even East Boston, Chelsea, etc.
Deer Island girl
This may sound crazy, but maybe another family relative or stranger
killed the girl and the parents were killed also. So sad.
