Great news for people who can't get enough of Chronicle
WGBH and Yankee Magazine begin filming this month on a new series aimed at highlighting the, well, main streets and back roads of New England, only with a different theme song - and aimed at a national audience.
Weekends With Yankee will start a 13-episode run in April, WGBH announced today.
Viewers will be guided through New England by Emmy Award-winning TV travel host, explorer and author Richard Wiese. The series will tap into Yankee’s insider secrets and behind-the-scenes access to the unique attractions that define the region, and the hidden New England that only locals know. Wiese will be joined in his travels by Yankee’s Senior Food Editor, Amy Traverso, who will share the recipes, local flavors and sense of community that make up the fabric of the region's food and dining scene.

Didn't WBZ/4 have occasional "Yankee" shows about 25-30 years ago?
I think you mean the YES
I think you mean the YES Network.
oh, dear
On the one hand, when I'm feeling in touch with my inner 80 year old, I really like Yankee Magazine.
On the other hand, this has the potential to become, "Confirm Everything You Suspect About New England Being Full Of Fleece Wearing, Apple Picking, Rude Protestant White People."
It's not the things you "know"...
Even though it's mostly Catholic?
Yep. That's my point.
Few people outside of New England realize that it has thriving Portuguese speaking and Francophone communities, or that not all the local food is based on British nursery pablum, or that not everyone sounds and holds the racial views of a movie Southie gangster. The WASPyness is part of the false stereotype. Sure, there's some root to all of these, but Yankee Magazine, for all its charm, doesn't do much to disprove them.
Portuguese food
I LOVE cacoila -- but wonder if I can find it anywhere closer than New Bedford. ;-)

Will they alert the rest of the nation to the turkey menace?
Is there a limit to how far from Boston?
Not necessarily something pinned to a specific distance in miles. Maybe a rougher estimate, let's say a tank of gas away.
Chronicle
Chronicle is all over new england.. a few months ago they featured the "Upper Valley", which is where I'm from in New Hampshire. Its about a 2-3 hour drive from Boston.
I've seen them go even further to Burlington, VT which is even further away.
Of course WCVB is owned by Hearst Television, but so is New Hampshire's WMUR Channel 9, Hartford VT/Hanover, NH's WNNE Channel 31, and Burlington VT/Plattsburg NY's WPTZ Channel 5. So that MIGHT have something to do with it.
Whoosh!
I was just making a stupid joke about the "A Tank Away" feature on Chronicle.
The real winner here?
Mike Barnicle - he'll now have an even better source to steal material from when he does guest bits on Chronicle.
