Man admits he killed artist whose body was found in a wooded area in Jackson Square

Baez

Ritcher Baez, 25, of New York City, today admitted he killed Pippin Roe near a Jackson Square construction site in 2014, then left her body under some leaves and debris, the Suffolk County District Attorney's office reports.

Baez pleaded guilty to manslaughter for killing Roe in an argument. He is scheduled for sentencing on Tuesday.

According to the DA's office:

During the course of an investigation into Roe’s death, Boston Police homicide detectives determined that late in the evening of July 3, 2014, and into the morning of July 4, Roe and Baez met in the area of Haymarket and were captured together in security camera footage at an ATM, where Roe used her bank card. They made their way toward a wooded area near a Columbus Avenue construction site. There, prosecutors would have argued, the two became involved in an altercation during which Baez struck the victim in the head repeatedly, causing her death.

Records showed that Roe’s bank card was used again on July 9, 2014, after her death. Security footage capturing the transaction showed Baez in the company of two other women as he used Roe’s bank card.

After a full examination of Roe’s remains, toxicological evidence, and investigative reports relating to Roe’s death, the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner ruled her death a homicide on Jan. 15, 2015. A warrant issued for Baez’s arrest and he was taken into custody in New York City, where he was living at that time, days later on Jan. 19.

Serously?

I'm confused- it sounds like they knew it was him years ago, caught him in 2015, but he took 3 years to confess and get sentenced?

If all that it took was 'knowing it's him,' the world would be a better place.

He just pleaded guilty. He probably took a plea bargain so he did not have to go trail. He has been in custody.

It would be very efficient to put a person to trial immediately after he's charged. Most of the investigation is complete, the witnesses are still available, and it's fresh in everyone's minds. But almost every rule of our courts is in place to protect the rights of the accused, not a rapid procession of cases before a judge. If an attorney has to go through 2000 pages of grand jury minutes and reports and test results, and file motions to suppress or dismiss or conduct independent analysis based on what they find, they're going to do that. The reading may take months, the motions may take months, appealing an unfavorable outcome may take the testing will take months, and the testing may take months, but building a defense takes priority over the court calendar.

You might want to read some of the amendments in the Bill of Rights. The Founding Fathers weren't idiots; they put those protections in place for a reason.

In Massachusetts murder cases, defendants are kept in jail from their arraignments until at least the disposition of their cases, so it's not like this guy was just wandering around after his arrest.

He and his harem should reimburse Roe's grieving family of the money they stole and did God knows what with. Every picture tells a story.
