New Boston residential listing has stunning waterfront views - because it's a boat, a really big, historic boat

The owners of one of the two red Nantucket Lightships now docked in Boston Harbor (yes, two) have put their craft up for sale.

For $5.2 million, you can sail away from Commercial Wharf in the North End with a six-bedroom houseboat with a 2,000-square-foot deck, a gourmet kitchen with modern appliances, a media room and a den - and a large, fog-busting lens originally meant to warn mariners away from the shoals 40 miles southwest of Nantucket. Oh, and all the bedrooms have en-suite bathrooms with showers, of course.

A floating lighthouse with rich maritime history, the Nantucket Lightship boasts a custom-designed interior with ample living space and nautical features. Highly-skilled carpenters were commissioned to build the interior in a manner maintaining the structural integrity of the ship. ... The living areas include space for both formal meetings or informal family gatherings.

And if you're not in the market for a houseboat? It would also make a fine nautical museum or charter boat, broker Josie McKenzie writes.

Former state Sen. William Golden of Quincy and his wife Kristen have owned their lightship since 2000, after buying it on eBay.

The Goldens typically berthed the ship at Martha's Vineyard, when not renting it out as a charter. In August, 2009, Golden sailed her to Hyannisport to shine a spotlight until Ted Kennedy was laid to rest.

The boat is not the Goldens' only connection to Boston Harbor. In 1982, as the city of Quincy's attorney, Golden filed the federal lawsuit that led to the creation of the MWRA and the harbor's cleanup.

Don't worry, even if somebody buys the ship and sails it somewhere else, Boston Harbor will still have a Nantucket Lightship, the one that's been docked in East Boston since 2010, where it is slowly undergoing renovations to become a floating museum:
