Dorchester-based electricians' union endorses Biden

IBEW Local 103 in Dorchester today endorsed Joe Biden and Kamala Harris for re-election in November, calling them the head of the "most pro-union administration in our nation's history."

In a statement, Lou Antonellis, business manager and financial secretary said:

President Biden and Vice President Harris are the leaders working people need now. Together, they have driven historic investments in clean, green energy that are powering thousands of union jobs throughout New England and across our country. Time and time again, President Biden and Vice President Harris have fought for workers rights and protections and held huge corporations accountable.

A well-grounded decision, nonetheless!

When I heard the news I was like watt? It's a real power play by the union.

Ohm going to believe that they like to plug the guys who are in charge.

because they have to, but the rank and file almost always votes for the endorsed.
They’ll all be holding Biden signs but will vote for Trump.

I'm really parochial, so don't follow events westa Wuhstuh all that much, but I'm pretty sure in Massachusetts, Biden won pretty handily.

Massachusetts is a pretty "pro-union" kind of state afterall. And if there is one thing Biden's predecessor was not, that was "pro-union". He does seem to like fake ones he makes up to support him though although he thinks he could make better decisions for them if they actually existed.

Look at towns in southern Worcester County, that's where you'll see the red dots when the town votes are totaled.

There are pockets down there that voted for him and you're likely to see signs that indicate you're on Trump turf if you're in the region.

You do realize that these guys put in their own wind tower to train on, right? And that the state and federal electrification and grid renewal programs involve a lot of electrical work? That every heat pump and photovoltaic panel installation requires an electrician, and more electricians to maintain them properly?

And that Trump axed all of these programs when the oil companies whined to him at Mar a Fuego?

I'm sorry if you are suffering from Windmill Cancer of the Brain, but unions and their members tend to know where the bread and butter are.

When was the last time the IBEW endorsed a non-Democrat? Seriously. I'd be interested to know.

Way back when I was still on my college newspaper, was when Reagan came to the IBEW hall for a speech - and was introduced by DINO Dapper O'Neil.

Yeah that was awhile ago, but it's happened.

That's what I wanted to know.

Remember the time Biden busted up the train strike? Also, my buddy took the electrician's exam, then went in to try to get a job, and was asked who he knew, and that was the basis for him not getting the job.

I wouldn't trust these schmucks to recommend ice cream. And I'm not anti-union at all.

Forcing those railroad workers to get back to work really bothered me, but it turns out they didn't stop working for them at all.

https://www.ibew.org/media-center/Articles/23Daily/2306/230620_IBEWandPaid

“We’re thankful that the Biden administration played the long game on sick days and stuck with us for months after Congress imposed our updated national agreement,” Russo said. “Without making a big show of it, Joe Biden and members of his administration in the Transportation and Labor departments have been working continuously to get guaranteed paid sick days for all railroad workers.

It turns out that everything done kept the country moving AND the railroad workers got their sick days.

So now what really bothers me is how little people know about this resolution.

But I suppose "when you do things right, people won't be sure you've done anything at all". Not great electorally, but this is how government is supposed to work. Certainly much more efficient for society than shameless self promotion.
