Five shot in Franklin Park

Five people were shot in the the area of Circuit Drive between Pierpont Road and the golf clubhouse tonight.
Police, already on hand in the park for the annual Dominican festival, which was scheduled to run until 10 p.m., reported shots around 8:42 p.m. and then more shots fired about two minutes later.
At least one of the victims was a teen or younger. One person was shot in the arm.
WCVB reports none of the injuries were considered life threatening.

I hope this event never
I hope this event never occurs again. The people it attracts have no respect for the neighborhood. The amount of noise and dangerous driving coming from the Dominican festival all weekend long is out of control. This mass shooting should be a surprise to no one. I have similar thoughts about the Saint Patrick’s day parade, but at least that only lasts a few hours and most people don’t drive to it.

For the most part, this is a family friendly day. They just need to end it earlier and apply the same rules at the other.

The assholes who think St Patrick’s day is an excuse to come to Sourhie, get drunk and disorderly, piss and puke on people’s houses, start fights, trash property…. What makes anyone think they’re majority Irish American, or could even find Ireland on a map?
Being sick of the mess that St Patricks day had become for the people living in Southie is in no way, shape, or form anti-Irish. Surely the victims are more heavily Irish than the perpetrators.

I don't think it unreasonable to call out the drunken bullshit that happens every year in March when someone is calling to shut down other festivals for drunken bullshit. But since the "special untouchable" festival happens to be "Eirsatz themed" then somehow all comparisons are an ethnic slur to the perpetual victim in question.

Their post may be a little over the top but the sentiment is not that far off. Certain festivals seem to invite way more violence than others. I do not recall the pride festival ever having the issues that seem to plague the festivals being complained about. Even Saint Patrick's day seems more of slobbering drunks causing minor chaos. There are some festivals that for one reason or another seem to attract way more violence. Maybe it is time for the organizers and communities to self police more?
Don't let a few clowns shut down a great local family event.

I really enjoyed it during the day. But at night it was disturbing. I didn’t even live near enough to be woken up by it. I sympathized with those who did. It should be shut down by 9pm, though this shooting did occur just before nine. But good luck getting police to do that.

Weekend service is limited. Depending on where you’re coming from, it can require transfers and long waits between them.
I’m not excusing drivers but that part of the city has long been deprived of the level of service more affluent sections are given.

Would bus service to the largest city parks (and "Jewel" of the Emerald Necklace) be considered decent. Any city with actual public transit would have at least one, if not more, train lines directly servicing it.

Adam, you were the only media source I saw that was clear about WHERE in the park this happened. I say it described as the "outskirts" of Franklin Park, among other descriptors. It's a small thing, but the detail and Boston-specificity you bring is always appreciated.
