Man on probation for bank robbery indicted for Mass. Ave. bank robbery

A federal grand jury recently indicted Dennis Taylor on charges he robbed a Santander Bank branch at Massachusetts and Westland avenues in April even as he was on federal probation following his release from a sentence for robbing another bank, the US Attorney's office in Boston reports.

Among the evidence against Taylor, 47, for the robbery around 3:30 p.m. on April 29: Video showing him running from the bank, down Mass. Ave. towards Huntington Avenue, while enveloped in a plume of red smoke from the dye pack a teller had placed in the plastic CVS bag he'd handed her, according to an affidavit by an FBI agent on the case. Also placed in the bag: Just $280 in cash.

The red plume attracted the attention of a security guard across the street at the Christian Science Center, whose orders to halt Taylor disregarded, but who followed him to the parking garage at 235 Huntington Ave., where Taylor evaded the guard but left behind a white CVS bag now stained red, along with red-stained money and a pair of blue latex gloves, the affidavit continues. DNA from the gloves matched Taylor's DNA, in a federal database following his 2010 conviction, the US Attorney's office reports.

Taylor, homeless at the time of the robbery, now faces up to 20 years in federal prison, the US Attorney's office reports.
