After night of drinking in the Fenway, woman stomped her own sister into unconsciousness, DA says
A woman who got into an argument with her sister after a night on the town punched her to the ground, then ground her footwear into her head, which she then slammed into the pavement several times on Dec. 8, according to the Suffolk County District Attorney's office.
The woman, 19, from Dorchester, was arraigned last week in Roxbury Municipal Court on one count of assault and battery and two counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon - her shod foot and the sidewalk - for the alleged attack on her sister on Ipswich Street in the Fenway. Her bail was set at $1,000, the DA's office reports.
According to the DA's office, police responded to a report of an unconscious person on the ground on Ipswich Street outside Boston Arts Academy and found the victim, 24, on the ground. The sister, "also on the scene, appeared intoxicated and was verbally abusive toward the officers."
According to the DA's office, the woman told the officers she and her sister had been out drinking. Also, one witness "saw the two arguing at a bus stop" and saw her "slugging" her sister in the back of the head.
The witness intervened to stop the altercation while calling 911.
But then the victim fell to the ground as her sister kept up the attack, the DA's office says, adding that video surveillance from the arts academy's camera system confirmed the witness's account and also showed the woman "stomping on the victim's head several times" and then "grabbing the victim's head and slamming it against the sidewalk about four times."
Innocent, etc.

One thousand dollars for bail?
With eyewitness and video evidence?
I know she hasn't been found guilty, but 1 thousand dollars for attempted murder?
Video surveillance is
Video surveillance is notoriously unreliable. At least they are considering charges with this DA.
What's needed is a fast trial
Like most of these cases, the circumstances are simple and there should be a trial in a matter of weeks, not a year+. If she's guilty, let a jury establish that now and move onto whatever the next step should be.
We don't need bail reform, we need speedy trials.
we need both
Yes, jailing someone for two weeks before their trial is better than two months or two years--but it's more than enough time to mess up someone's life. A lot of employers will fire someone who can't come to work for weeks because they're in jail.
What does the quantity of evidence
have to do with the size of the bail?
Bail is supposed to ensure people come back for their court date.
People confuse this a lot
Fighting after drinking with a relative doesn’t pose much of a public risk. The other side of bail is to remove dangerous people from the streets.
Hitting a person standing near you when drunk is a public risk
Without knowing if she has a history of getting violent to non-family members when drunk, we can't tell from this if she poses a public risk. The viciousness of the attack is scary - her sister will certainly have a Traumatic Brain Injury, with a good chance of it being permanently life altering.
That's not supposed to be the purpose of bail either
If someone is a threat to others, then they can be held without bail. How much money someone has available shouldn't factor into that decision.
I understand how bail works
And judges set bail based on the seriousness of the crime all the time, stomping someone's head like a lunatic seems like it should receive more that 1 thousand dollars.
The judge could have released her on personal recognizance, but she chose one thousand dollars, it just seems low to me.
One thousand dollars is so little that if she wanted to skip on court, she would be out next to nothing, and people fail to appear at an alarming rate in this State.
OK, we can go over this again.
1. The nature of the charges affects how likely it is someone will try to skip out, which is why they're relevant. It's also relevant because of the risk to society's faith in the justice system if the case cannot proceed normally.
2. Bail can also be set based on a person's personal finances. $1,000 can be a lot of money for some people, not a lot for others.
I understand why bail is set.
Your condescending tone is not necessary, if you don't agree with my opinion on one thousand dollars being too low, that's fine.
One hell of a story.
One hell of a story.
Dream?
More like nightmare amirite
I gotta ask
which establishment served and then overserved them?
I wish that were in the police report
