Group of troublesome Back Bay bag stealers try escaping in an alley, but mostly fail, police say

Boston Police report nabbing six of eight teens they say spent part of yesterday afternoon pestering stores along Newbury Street before breaking into a truck, then heading toward the Public Garden down an alley between Marlborough Street and Commonwealth Avenue.

Police say they arrested two of the teens around 3 p.m. after a man who said they'd stolen a bag he had at Dartmouth and Newbury streets an hour earlier was able to identify them. The rest were released without enough proof they had robbed the man.

According to police, D-4 officers converged on the area between Dartmouth and Clarendon streets after one officer spotted a large group of teens in Public Alley 424.

Officers observed three individuals matching the description, and stopped them on Marlborough Street. Officers were advised that three more individuals were hiding inside 66 Marlborough Street. Responding officers were able to detain two more suspects, and the third attempted to flee the area. A brief foot pursuit ensued, and officers were able to place the suspect into handcuffs.

Antonio Packard-Wade, 19, of Dorchester, was charged with receiving stolen property, police say. A 17-year-old, too young to have her name released, was chagrge as delinquent for unarmed robbery and receiving stolen property, police say.
