MassDOT yesterday sued a Charlestown company whose driver was going down 128 with the back of his "rollback" flatbed in the upright position - at least until he slammed into the bottom of an overpass at Endicott Street in Danvers on Nov. 14, 2020. Read more.

A Middlesex Superior Court jury this week convicted two participants in an armed standoff that lasted 8 1/2 hours on the side of Rte. 128 in Wakefield on gun charges. Read more.

Cambridge Day reports the city of Cambridge has sued the Lexington Planning Board over its approval of a 5.5-acre solar-panel project along Rte. 128 near Cambridge's Hobbs Brook Reservoir. Cambridge is asking a judge to "annul" the board's approval over the project's potential impact on the water supply, including the loss of roughly 1,000 trees.

State Police report a load of polyurethane dropped out of a tractor-trailer onto Rte. 128 southbound in Weston this morning, following yesterday's disgorgement of dirt and rocks in Lexington. The spill initially shut all three travel lanes, but State Police report all are now open again.

Tipped over dump truck

Tim had plenty of time to ponder the tipped-over dump truck on Rte. 128 north at Rte. 2 around 3:30 p.m., more than two hours after it lost verticality, because it jammed up the road like nobody's business. MassDOT reports the spill forced the shutdown of three lanes in each direction; State Police report there were injuries.

WFXT reports State Police are looking for a pair of highwaymen who got out of their car, went up to the back of a truck stopped in traffic on Rte. 128 in Canton this morning, opened it up, then made off with "multiple boxes of smartphones."

State Police report a Canton man walking on 128 south in Needham was killed by a hit-and-run driver early this morning. State Police did not say why the man was walking on the highway, but said the vehicle that killed him left behind debris that investigators are now analyzing for possible clues.

Truck in Charles River

State Police report the truck, carrying mail, somehow slid down a long embankment from Rte. 128 north near the ramp to the turnpike and Rte. 30 just before noon. The driver, who can't swim, managed to get onto the top of his cab, from which he was rescued by Weston firefighters. The Newton Fire Department reports he was taken to a local hospital for observation.

Flipped car on a 128 offramp in Needham

State Police report a driver rolled his or her car at Exit 35C on 128 southbound in Needham this morning. The driver wasn't injured, the ramp had to be shut briefly so the car could be flipped over and towed away.

Solar-panel enabled noise-barrier wall

MassDOT reports it's negotiated a deal with two solar companies to outfit an existing 3,000-foot stretch of noise-barrier wall along Rte. 128 northbound in Lexington with solar panels as a pilot to see if the walls can be used to generate solar power and reduce the state's carbon footprint. Cruiser and jackknifed truck on 128 in Weston

State Police report a trooper on a construction detail on Rte. 128 southbound in Weston was seriously injured around 11:30 p.m. on Tuesday when the driver of an 18-wheeler slammed into the back of the cruiser, destroying it and forcing his truck to jackknife across the highway.

The trooper, who was able to radio for help, was taken to a Boston hospital with serious injuries, State Police say.

The leader of the group of heavily armed Moorish sovereign citizens who held an hours-long stand off on Rte. 128 in July is suing over his arrest and continuing lockup - and is demanding $1,000 a day in recompense for his time behind bars plus written apologies from Charlie Baker, Maura Healey and the troopers who put him in cuffs for what he claims is a violation of his and his fellow gun slingers' Second Amendment rights. State Police report that a couple of tires flew off an 18-wheeler's trailer on the southbound side of 128 in Needham this morning, flying across the road and slamming into at least two cars on the northbound side. Amazingly, there were no injuries.

State Police report a motorcyclist traveling at "a high rate of speed" on Rte. 128 northbound in Newton lost control around 9:30 p.m.

The Harley Davidson then crashed and the operator, a 32 year old man from Ludlow, was found unresponsive. EMTs performed CPR on the operator on scene, and he was transported to Newton Wellesley Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

State Police report a driver failed to navigate the sharp curve from the end of I-95 onto Rte. 128 north around 1:25 a.m., and had his left arm amputated during a crash that involved guardrails on both sides of the ramp. Read more.

State Police and the Middlesex Count District Attorney's office report that ten adults and a teenarger were charged with a variety of gun charges for the standoff that shut Rte. 128 in Wakefield and sent nearby residential areas into lockdown for several hours yesterday. Read more.
