Notes from today's Boston Wi-Fi Summit, Part I

At today's Boston Wi-Fi Summit, Doug Schremp from BTS Partners just gave an overview of the analysis of a Wi-Fi survey in Boston from the perspective of individuals and organizations. During his presentation he outlined several questions that may be discussed further at today's summit.

The agenda is available as a PDF and is listed on Councillor Tobin's weblog.

  • What are the public resources that can be used to encourage wireless broadband's growth?
  • What should government's role be in the operation of a public network?
  • What role can business play in the development of community based networks?
  • How can conflicts between wireless uses be arbitrated?
  • How will this make Boston a better place to work and live?
  • Will City Wide Consistent wireless internet deployment encourage competition and lower prices?
  • Can we create a consistent city wide wireless network based on many different deployment models?
  • How would mobile users be given technical support? Who will they call for help? How do the different groups coordinate?

The Museum of Science has opened up their Wi-Fi network for the day. Hopefully we'll be able to post slides from the two presentations that were given: one from the Museum of Science that gave an introduction to Wi-Fi and then another presentation from Doug Schremp.
