So what does a guy with a monthly pass do with a free T round-trip?

On the Franklin Line, Dave reports he's applied for another MBTA rebate, thanks to another late train, but wonders what he'd do with it since he already buys a monthly pass:
... Maybe my kids can use them to play train. We'll set up some chairs in the living room and just sit there and it'll be like the real thing. I'll get angrier and angrier and the kids will laugh and laugh. ...

Take them with you when you buy yor pass
I'm told you can take them with you when you buy your pass and get a discounted fare. I'm not sure, however, because I've never gotten a voucher for all the late trips I put in for.

There's no pass discount, but you can get the cash instead.
As I understand it, the T will NOT allow you to use the rebate as a voucher when purchasing your next monthly pass. However, it's very easy just to redeem your rebate for cash.
When your rebate arrives, it will consist of two one-way tickets for the applicable CR zone. It will also include a letter. You sign and date the letter where indicated, then present both the letter and the tickets to an agent at either North or South Station. They will then give you the cash value.
Since the program began, I've filed six or seven on-time claims. Although it takes awhile for the T to mail the rebate to you (I'm still waiting on two of my most recent claims), I've never had a problem with cashing the tickets they give me in at North Station.
Now, I've never had to file a subway or bus claim, but I presume it works in a similar manner to commuter rail.
Exchanging Vouchers
Good to know about the cash option. That will come in handy
I've used the vouchers to pay for a monthly pass at Downtown Crossing. They don't like me very much, but I've used both the refund ones and some others with money left on them as partial payment. It's a slow, painful process, but what at the MBTA isn't?
Suggestion ....
Hmm.
I'd suggest giving it to blogger 'independentminded' since she's apparently on her way out the door ...
