How WBOS could have sucked less

Pamela Rosenthal discusses the way WBOS suddenly became Radio 92.9 without an ounce of warning:

... Seriously, in what business (besides radio) would a company make a radical change to its only product without warning, cut off its communication channels, and still expect people to do business with them? If someone knows of another example, please let me know about it.

The fact is that it's quite likely that WBOS/Radio 92.9/Greater Media doesn't actually care about its listeners…maybe they haven't realized that listeners=customers...

Clearly, the station wanted to move forward with this change regardless of the impact on the current listener base. However, they could have preserved at least some of their goodwill by engaging in an authentic, human conversation that doesn’t insult our intelligence ...

WBOS now a '90s oldies station.

I love the new format. Its like being back in high school - all late 90s stuff. No early 90s grunge, no mid 90s blah, just good, solid music.

Boston radio suffers from redundancy if anything at all. Boring boring and more boring. ex: Warren and Wally syndrome.

Not only do I get the station with clear reception (1 of 3 I can hear), I like their song choices and lack of talking.

Although I wouldnt call it a 90s station, they play some recent songs as well.

Im not a fan of format switches, but this one benefited me.

Sad story:

When in Miami, I listed to two stations. Party, and Rock. Their formats were switched at the same time. The rock station became reggeton, and and party station became....rock, but with new DJs and more commercials.

Thanks clear channel.

On the plus side, it kind of reminds me of the way WKRP switched from elevator to progressive rock back in the 70s. Nothing better than a scratched LP and Dr. Johnny Fever taking over mid song.

WROR once made the transition to COUNTRY! Yeah, I know. Country music in Boston? No one listened. They are back to being a "normal" station. The "Dark Days" are over. Maybe BOS will learn in short time that if it ain't broken...Me? I don't like the new format, and I know how to change the dial.
