And if everybody else jumped off a cliff, would you?

Julia Spitz reports she learned her lesson the hard way, when she decided to walk across the ice to an island in the Ashland Reservoir:
... It must be safe, right? Look, grownups, kids, dogs, all out on the ice. And I'd always wanted to see what the view looked like from one of the islands in the Ashland Reservoir.
Things were going real well until I got a few feet from the island. Then came the sound. Then came the gushing cold water.
It could have been worse. It was only a foot or so deep… at first. Then the mud on the bottom started giving way fast. ...

Didn't anyone ever tell you never to walk on a froen Reservoir
Waters taken from Reservoirs, even during the winter, and a lower water level from th ice above makes it very unsafe, as there's no support for the ice sheet left behind.
Never walk out onto a reservoir kiddo's, this Darwin child got lucky!
Yup, I know
Two of the stupidest thoughts of all time went through my head: Everyone else is doing it, and, after it was all over, seemed like a good idea at the time. Point me at the cliff and double dog dare me. Being around kids for the past gazillion years has finally melted my brain.
