When it comes to an edifice complex, size does matter

Geoff Edgers provides the photographic proof that the architect of the new ICA lost out on some award because the winner has a bigger cantilever.

Just doesn't measure up:

Not up to linking them all right now, but Nouvel wasn't awarded his special prize for a single building, not in reality anyway. He's consistently created some amazing stuff over the years - stuff that doesn't leak around the windows, either (not that the megapolaroid does leak, I'm ripping on the Stata Center here ...).

In any case, I'd bet the award to Nouvel has less to do with the Guthrie's overbite, and more to do with his history of designing buildings that work with natural light and air flow. These sorts of stylish innovations reduce energy use and release of climate forcing gasses.

Nouvel's Wikipedia Entry has some nice pictures and links to stuff he's designed. I personally think this one is truly nifty. When he went to Barcelona, Little Nouvel thought big and they called him phallic(They didn't know he was panoramic.).
