I agree that the number should be retired, but not only because of Johnny Pesky. Rico Petrocelli also wore #6. He holds (or held) a number of club records for his postions (SS,3B) as well as having been a member of two World Series teams. It would be nice if his time wearing the number was acknowledged.

So did the kid on my Little League team who farted in the dugout all the time.
Get off Buckner's ass already. You obviously have no concept of how key he was in the home stretch of 1986. Yes, a gut-wrenching error, but those things happen, and this is not one that detracts from the number he wore on the back of his uniform.

i wasnt on his "ass". i simply stated the fact that he wore the number. i was there in 86.

True, but but then you followed that fact with "ugh," implying his legacy with that simple error. Too many people do that, even to this day, so it kind of strikes a nerve to me.
And my apologies to you for my own assumption that you were unaware of his contributions to the team prior to the Error Heard Around the World. My bad.
