Old South not the only church on top of an MBTA construction project

The Outraged Liberal hopes the T uses its time-out on the Copley project to consider whether similar work at Arlington should be modified to protect the Arlington Street Church.

Floating Church
As two points of interest on the ASC:
--It's not on rock or dirt. Its foundation sits on 999 pilings driven into the Back Bay muck and water.
--It has the world's largest collection of thematic Tiffany Studio windows, both levels of its nave are lined with them. That includes the Guild window (our lady of the flowers to us commoners) that the international stained glass folk declared as the finest example of Tiffany's work.
Damaging either the integrity of the ASC foundation or harming those windows would be far sight worse than a crack in the wall.
The major excavation at
The major excavation at Arlington is done, and has been done for a long time now. Stopping the already-late project to evaluate the possible impact of what is now essentially interior design work would be a waste.
It gets better.
The MBTA's outsourced real estate/construction department, Transit Realty, just got another job outside Boston. Come on down, Chicago Transit Authority! Consider the possibilities......
