Former aide to Michael Flaherty running for at-large city-council seat

Andrew Kenneally, at-large Councilor Michael Flaherty's former policy director, last week filed papers with the state that he's formed a campaign committee to run for an at-large city council seat. Would Kenneally run against his old boss, or is this another sign that Flaherty is, in fact, going to make a run for mayor against Tom Menino?

Kenneally, who lives in East Boston, was most recently a director at Racepoint Group, a Waltham-based public relations company - with an office in London - that specializes in "digital media relations" (among its clients: Digg, Firefox and BlogHer).

There are four at-large seats on the council.

Ugly as sin and far from complete (I don't have Kenneally listed yet, for example).

Oops. Seems about time to jump ship.

BTW, Racepoint is part of a group that tries to "influence and educate" the "blogosphere" (educate = promote their client)

I have heard good things about Kenneally. He grew up in West Roxbury and comes from a good family. Apart from his government experience, I know he ran a non-profit here in West Roxbury, which focused on reducing underage drinking and helping seniors.

I heard that Kenneally is umemployed and collecting unemployment checks from the government. No wonder he wants to be on the council... he needs a job!

Guy lost his job. Why shouldn't he collect unemployment?

How can you justify Adam that it's alright for this guy Kenneally to be running for office while having no job and collecting a bi-weekly unemployment check from the U.S. Government. Kenneally is an unqualified hack and boob who should be working like the rest of Boston, not sitting home collecting welfare and trying to run for office because he has no job. Kenneally's folks are wealthy and his mom is a big time realtor from West Roxbury. He could work for her. I'm definitely not voting for this lazy fool. We, the Boston taxpayers, should not be paying this guy to sit at home, not work, run for council just because he needs a job. Kenneally is an out of work hack who needs to find a job where the taxpayers aren't footing the bill. Hey Kenneally, I heard that KFC was hiring.

The guy raises more money in three weeks than any of his opponents - sounds like his opponents are taking him seriously and they are scared... Obviously or they wouldn't be attacking him...

There's nothing worse than a person with a job criticizing a person without one. Especially in a tuff economy like the one we're in now. Clearly - someone's afraid of this kid and - u know what - they should be. Cuz clearly there's a lot to like about this kid. I got 6 friends who recently got laid off. And lemme tell you .. none of them happy about it. But this Kenneally kid has got some ballz. He gets a brain tumor .. loses his job .. but he gets back on his feet and says, "I'm gonna run." And to the coward who called him a hack .. what color is the sky in your world??? Probably not blue. The kid's got 2 master's degrees .. he spent 5 years in DC .. 5 years working on the City Council .. spent a year in Belfast Irealnd .. he's got a history of helping people and u call him hack. Gimme a break! 16,000 people in Mass have lost their jobs since December. This kid happens to be one of them. Instead of lying down - he gets up. Talk about being able to relate to and empathize with the times. Go get em' Kenneally. I love your story and I've heard nothing but good things about you and your family. Keep runnning Kenneally! Keep running! And to those afraid of his story - keep being afraid.

Some politician, terrified he won't get his position, sends out some mindless fool with a script to troll around the blog and attack Kenneally.

I've known Andy for more than 20 years. He is a straight-shooter, a real hard worker. And you know, if he doesn't have a job, he's just like us!!!

I can't find work. My mother is being laid off. My sister is being laid off.

When you, and your idiotic vitriol, start saying that anyone without a job is lazy, I take DEEP OFFENSE to that!! You're just another of those elitist pricks who thinks they are better than others because they are born with a silver spoon shoved deeply up their @$$e$.

This man has been working for the people the majority of his professional life, which is more than we can say for the hack you represent.

He's got my vote and I'll work doubly hard now to make sure he get's more people's support seeing how panicked he makes the status quo. We need people like him to stand up to the idiots who would send their dogs to go woofing around like you.

Not everybody gets to have a trust fund from daddy and/or a mob supported "legitimate" income from a lottery win and/or a cushy job licking politician boots, eh?

Let's hope your employer - if you even have one - sees this and finds a way to put you at the top of his or her "special employee" list. Perhaps you will find solace in learning about reality when your job goes poof too!

Then again, something tells me that mommy's and daddy's basement is nice and warm and the continuous supply of spending money and cheetos isn't currently threatened.

We should be so lucky to have a man like this serving the Boston community. He is honorable and hardworking, and I know he'll do great things for our community. Keep at it Andrew!!!!

I don’t think anyone intentionally decides to get laid off and collect unemployment. I think if anything Kenneally relates to the rest of us. He was in a new job during a tough economy. During that time, he suddenly got ill and doctors discovered he had a brain tumor. The guy went thru a lot, more than most will ever know. When he was finally well enough to return to work, they laid him off his first day back. Do you actually think he wanted that??? Really??? U think that is someone’s dream situation? Do you think he actually thought let me hack the system and run for councilor?? Did you ever stop to think that this guy maybe just genuinely likes the work? Actually if you got to know him at all, you might really see that he just loves to help people in any way he can. This guy is the hardest working man I have seen in my life. He has always spent his time working morning, noon, nights, weekends, etc.. Whatever time is on the clock, this guy is willing to give of himself. He just wants to make even the slightest of a difference in Boston and he feels this opportunity will allow him that chance. These are the kind of guys that are rare and you want in office. So if you actually think he is not qualified then don’t vote for him. Get a life!
