Apparently submitter has never been to public skating at any local rink, where the Hood logo is as common as CCM.

We tried skating lessons at the Roche rink in West Roxbury (before it was the Roche, though), and the kidlet gamely stuck it out for the whole season, but it wasn't really for her. Her class was right after the Pee-Wee hockey practice, so, no, not a milk crate in sight. Still a cute photo.

Go to public skate at any local rink. The Hood logo is as common as CCM or Bauer.

Actually, I learned to skate like that, only with a triple stack. I didn't know how until I came to New England.

These crates are indispensable for everyone when it comes to open pond skating . Not only do they hold kids and newbies up (no rails!), they hold gear and skates that are being hauled to the shore and then provide effective seating while putting on skates - not to mention, provide a place for shoes and beverages while the skating is underway.
