What Marty Peretz doesn't know about Massachusetts could fill an entire copy of the New Republic
By adamg on Mon, 02/02/2009 - 1:06pm
Peretz hears about our new speaker of the house and concludes that his election proves Massachusetts is lurching to the right, in part because only Massachusetts liberals like DiMasi opposed casinos (as opposed, to say, Massachusetts conservatives like Patrick?).
Michael Jonas reads Peretz's musings (which also insist that New York is lurching to the right) and concludes that Peretz should stop making such an idiot of himself.

Seems to be a trend
That's the second time this week I've seen some prominent right-wing blogger mention the Massachusetts political scene. The first was someone complained about Boston papers "dropping the D" when talking about Dianne Wilkerson's ordeal.
I think they don't realize that, in MA, it's generally assumed that you're a Democrat (unless you're the governor); it'd be as redundant to say "(D)" as it would to say "-MA". We're saving forests here.
More Guano
I clicked and read Peretz's entire post -- he's connecting dots that are waaaaay too far apart to make for the right turn he's claiming. (Of course, I've long been of the opinion that the Bay State isn't nearly as liberal as outsiders perceive it to be to begin with...)
I'll add that Peretz's eh column notwithstanding, The New Republic has some of the most interesting political commentary around, ranging from slightly to the right of center to solid liberal, depending on the author. It's a nice contrast to more ideological periodicals of the left and the right.
What's even worse about the column
Is that Peretz lives in Cambridge, so you'd think he'd know better. Or maybe he's just being optimistic.
