He says: Boycott Shaw's

Borderline says stay away from Shaw's one day over the next month for ratting out Whole Foods Markets over its proposed Thanksgiving opening (surprise: We still have some Blue Laws):

... Never mind that the Blue Laws are a relic from a different age, and that there thousands of ancient laws on the books that are never enforced, either through official ignorance or deliberate inaction. Whole Foods wanted to stay open, was willing to pay its staff extra to come in on that day, and many consumers in Newton and Waltham may have wanted to go there to buy a last-minute something for Thanksgiving dinner. ...

One suspects Dan will not be joining in, since he finds Whole Foods trying to force employees to work on Thanksgiving pretty obnoxious.

Shaws charges me substantially more if I don't give them personal information. That's already reason enough for me not to do business with them.

Chances are the cashier will whip out her Shaws card on a string and swipe in your discount. Works for me :-).

I've found that I just have to say, "Oh, darn! I have a [fill in the store--Shaw's, Stop and Shop, CVS, etc] card, but I left it in my other purse [or if you're a guy, my other pants]."

Never fails that the cashier will use his or her card to get me the discount.

To get one of those cards they can't force you to provide any identification. So sign up as your favorite Baseball player. (You may want to pay cash if you do that.)

back when whole foods was bread and circus (the Allston one was, i don't know about the others) it was a lot better. Now it gets worse and worse every week.
