I only skimmed the start of it, but so far sounds to me like progressive Californians should be be protesting something other than this decision.

I agree. I support gay marriage, but the courts made the right decision in this case.

I do find it rediculous that it only takes a simple majority (50% +1) to amend the CA constitution though.

Looks like a terrible irony

What I'm seeing of the breakdowns of who voted against gay marriage aren't pretty.

Basically, it looks like members of groups likely to have benefited disproportionately from overall California progressiveness and tolerance... were also likely to vote that a basic right be taken away from gays.

I'm going to make a leap here (I don't want to get all the data and work out the logic), and suggest that a message for Massachusetts is that we'd better do universal education and cultural integration well, and soon.
