I'm surprised Mark Parenteau is the guy Adam Reilly went to for a quote. Didn't he serve time in a federal prison for child abuse? That's doesn't preclude him from having something to say about the demise of BCN, but surely Reilly could have found someone else to get a quote from.

This Email was sent to WBCN and CBS Radio this morning....

Well folks. I knew it was coming because I'm in the music industry and I work In Boston and New York. You scrambled after Howard Stern left in 2005 and simply never recovered. First WXRK-KRock in New York, WCKG in Chicago and now you guys. Is WYSP in Philly next?

I bought 4 Sirius Radios and 2 XM Radios in my home and all of my vehicles to listen to Howard Stern and all the sports on it, but I always listened to my rock music on WBCN having been a rock musician in the 80's and 90's that's now a producer. I was always loyal to WBCN.

I will admit that I understand that it's a business decision on your part, but Jesus Christ guys, how in God's name do you throw out 41 years of rock tradition? Not to mention, you guys have always been the hub of promoting local rock music in Boston. It's horrible that you guys went for the all mighty dollar by putting Mix 98.5 on your frequency and putting WBZ FM on 98.5.

Rock in Boston will never be the same without this terrible decision. If you have access to XM or Sirius, go back and see what Howard Stern said right at the beginning of his show this morning at about 6:05AM. Ever since Howard Stern and Mel Karmazin left, you guys have made nothing but BAD decisions including David Lee Roth, Opie and Anthony(who I like and listen to on XM/Sirius on the afternoon replay on XM) and have even tried Toucher & Rich in the morning because you needed to cut back economically on Opie and Anthony's rights fees.

I have been a loyal CBS radio listener since the 70's when I grew up with WCBS Newsradio in New York. I also had CBS stock and got out at the right time before the recent recession. Ever since Mel Karmazin left, you guys have made nothing but horrible decisions nationwide. That includes the JACK format that replaced WCBS FM Oldies in New York when WCBS FM's ratings were high. The oldies format returned after an overwhelming demand from the New York market listener's complaints.

Now you go and take away our Boston new rock station. I am 48 years old and I will NOT listen to Classic Rock. How many times do I want to hear Freebird for the rest of my life? So now I will listen to WFNX, WAAF and Sirius and XM's Octane, Alternative Nation and Lithium stations to get my music instead of turning on Mix on the 104.1 frequency.

And even though I am a Season Ticket Holder to the Red Sox, Patriots and Celtics, I will make sure that if I ever need to listen to the Patriots and Bruins on radio on WBZ FM 98.5, I will listen to the Sirius XM feeds because they play national spots instead of your local spots when you tune to the Bruins and Patriots broadcasts. And if they don't, I'll simply shut off the radio until the game resumes. I will not support any of CBS Radio's local sponsors because you guys really make terrible decisions in plain English. And I am planning on telling all of my New York and Boston friends and music industry business colleagues to do the same. Taking WBCN off the Terrestrial airwaves is a terrible decision. Now you're forcing us to listen to WAAF. AAF!!!! I hate WAAF!!! I like WFNX a lot, but my allegance to 'BCN was always there over WFNX.

Honestly, this town does NOT need yet another sports talk station even if it's on FM. There are already THREE on AM (WEEI , ESPN 890 and 1510AM). It's a horrible decision that you can add to the list of the ones I mentioned above. CBS Radio is going down the toilet ever since Howard Stern and Mel Karmazin left. It's a slow dying death very similar to Alziemers. CBS Radio is having a long goodbye and having a slow and deliberate death.

I will be amazed if many of the CBS Radio non news stations wind up surviving over the next decade. The CBS executives who have come in since Howard Stern and Mel Karmazin left have made terrible decisions. They don't have a clue about making good programming decisions. To put it bluntly, you guys don't have the gonads to be cutting edge and make the correct decisions like keeping our beloved rock station WBCN a rock format forever. Instead you make decisions based on focus groups and don't go by gut feeling and what's right.

I feel sorry for people like Chachi Loprete, who is a friend, who have given their life to 'BCN. It's a rotten shame that it's come down to this. I'll keep listening to Howard Stern mornings on Sirius and XM and turn to WFNX and WAAF for my local rock. CBS Radio and whoever is responsible for this lousy decision that destroys Boston Rock should be ashamed of themselves. God bless XM and Sirius.....

I'll buy "once-great," but anyone mourning the loss of WBCN hasn't listened to the station in years. The headline should be something more along the lines of "crap radio station changes to different flavor of crap."

BTW, Boston Emissions is moving to ZLX. Same time slot.
