Will the new sports station hire a woman?

Kat says it's past time for women to get a voice on local sports radio:

... In 2009, when one of the most consistent and coveted football analysts/hosts of the past decade is female (Suzy Kolber), and when the Red Sox beat writer for the largest newspaper in Boston is female (the Boston Globe’s Amalie Benjamin), and when our regional sports television network host is female (NESN’s Kathryn Tappen), why are females largely absent from manning the microphones in Boston’s sports radio scene? ...

I am not fan of WEEI and hope that the new stations gets some good talent. That being said most men listen to sports radio so they don't have to listen to woman. Radio is not a visual medium so even my Heidi Whatney wouldnt be welcome.

Suzy Kolber? Suzy Freakin' Kolber? Is this Deadspin? Suzy Kolber is best knows for being macked by a drunk Joe Namath. This is no different than the person who wants more professional lacrosse talk on sports radio. They really care, and they're a tiny minority.

but I agree.

Jackie McMullen is the only female sports personality that I could listen to because she knows what she is talking about. But that would only go so far.

But the point of sports radio isn't always to have people that know what they are talking about.

I listen to Dennis and Callahan but can't really stand Dale (I like Holley), and I can only tolerate the Big Show in small spurts. You kind of have to be an a-hole to be successful in this type of medium (local sportstalk)

"hole."
Every radio program with a female "personality" on air has the exact same "personality." It started with Robin on Ho-hum Stern back in the day.

She sits there and says "now boys, that's not nice," and chastises them for making politically incorrect statements and tut tuts the naughty men for their ribaldry. She is the "straight man" to the morning zoo wackiness. It is old, boring, stooopid and painful to the ears.

If you don't believe me, spend some time tootling around the dial. Listen to any morning radio program for at least one hour. And you'll hear it loud and clear.

A sports radio program with a woman would be the same. She will try to reel in their wacky. She will tut tut the making fun of A-rod. She will "now boys, that's not nice" making fun of Ben Roethlisburger for his motorcycle accident.

And it will be all the same crapola, no matter the content of the broadcast. Wacky morning news or sports or politics... it's all the same once you throw in the female.

Now, a REAL broadcast would be an all female sports show, with one guy. Finding 2 or 3 really sports-educated (and not just about ONE sport) women would be great. Someone who could talk Football, Baseball, Soccer and even Golf...

I might listen then.
