Andrea Cabral endorses Felix Arroyo

At-large City Council candidate Felix Arroyo says he's won the endorsement of Suffolk County Sheriff Andrea Cabral.

Arroyo said he's also picked up endorsements from the Greater Boston Labor Council, Painters District Council 35 and the Gay and Lesbian Labor Activist Network.

Arroyo, son of the former at-large councilor, is running for one of four open seats in the fall elections.

Sheriff Andrea Cabral and the Greater Boston Labor Council join a growing list of supporters

Felix G. Arroyo announced this week that he has the support of Suffolk County Sheriff Andrea Cabral, as well as the Greater Boston Labor Council, in his campaign for one of the Boston City Council’s four at-large seats. Also endorsing Arroyo this week were the Painters District Council 35 and the Gay and Lesbian Labor Activist Network (GALLAN).

Arroyo, who previously worked as a labor organizer with SEIU and currently is a health care organizer, said "I am honored to have these endorsements. I think it shows our effort to provide a voice for all of Boston is resonating. We are building a network of people who will work together towards creating quality schools, safer streets, and livable neighborhoods."

Through his work with Boston youth as a Little League coach, Arroyo is particularly interested in building stronger relationships with law enforcement officials such as Sheriff Cabral. "I work with kids every day in Little League who are at the point where they have to choose between graduating high school and going to college or dropping out and struggling on the streets of Boston. I know the peer pressures and economic difficulties they are facing and that is why I want to work closely with Sheriff Cabral, the Boston Police Department, and the public schools so that we can keep kids off the streets while creating a path towards college for every student in Boston."
