Possum: America's other white meat

Possum

Good thing I wasn't carrying any china when I went to take our trash cans out to the curb this morning. Because I really wasn't expecting to see what looked like the world's largest rat staring up at me from one of the barrels - before it slumped over "dead" (and no, I don't carry my camera while taking out the trash - I got it out of the car). Dear possums: This is Boston, New England's largest city - please move to Newton or someplace and stop freaking me out.

Oh, that is the creepiest photo. I recall living near Newton Centre a number of years ago and seeing weird-acting (probably rabid) raccoons in the middle of the day. So please, possums, don't go to Newton.

Nope, I think the gigantic rats belong with the rest of those who run the city.

It just wanted to be skritched behind the ears and loved for who it is! Is that so wrong?

...in the trash. Where's his friend Albert? </walt>

He ate the entire turkey carcass and the aluminum pan, leaving behind only the wire frame.

About 2 years ago I found 3 baby racoons in my covered trash can when I went to take out the trash. All I can figure is that they pried up the cover while standing on the woodpile next to the barrel and fell in, one after the other.

PS.: Do you always have a camera handy when you take out the trash?

PPS.: I'd call you a wuss but you get bonus points for "barrels" instead of "trash cans". :^)

But of course! You just never know what you'll run into in the long trek from the front door to the side of the house ...
