MBTA service on the 4th of July
Just a reminder for those of you traveling in, out of, or around the city on the 4th.
- Extra service will be provided on all bus and subway lines.
- The D Line will be temporarily reopened from Riverside to Government Center with no bustitutions. The service suspension will resume the next day and continue through to the end of the summer.
- Fares will be suspended after 10:30pm on bus and subway lines only.
- Express bus service will be provided from Arlington Station to Riverside after the end of the fireworks display.
- Commuter rail trains will operate on a Saturday schedule with the last outbound runs leaving at 11:45pm (the fireworks end at 11pm) however the #1173 to Newburyport will depart at 11:15pm - sorry guys.

That *sounds* great, but....
They don't bother to mention that for many buses, 'Sunday Schedule' means 'Doesn't Run At All' -- how do you add 'extra' service to something that isn't even running?
There's a reason why I so rarely leave Melrose on any given Sunday: It's because none of the bus lines that come through here operate on that day of the week, and 'Saturday Schedule' for the Haverhill Line means 'Every Three Hours'.
It's easier for me to just walk the 2 miles to Oak Grove and then take a cab on the return.

That's just another part of the T's push for greater efficiency. They can improve service without any added expenditures, and no one is inconvenienced any more than they would be otherwise. It's a win-win situation. ;)

Yup.
True enough, Arborway. They (the MBTA) could improve the overall services without extra expenditures. They just don't want to. So, the price keeps going up, but we get inefficient service from the MBTA, especially much of the Green Line, and buses, just the same. Pathetic and disgusting, indeed.
