Horrible yellow bugs getting all up in people's grills

Anyone know what the medium sized yellow flying bugs that has infested Longwood and Brookline? It's like they are attacking.

They're everywhere! One of them tried flying up my nose today (in Cambridge).

Yesterday evening in the Kendall Square area I started noticing these little bastards falling off my cap onto my shirt, even on my hands. I took my cap off and shook it good, didn't see anymore. Counted at least 8-10 of these little guys. Don't know where they came from [fell off a tree?]. They were similar to fruit flies. This is a first for me. Must have something to do with the warm, wet, humid weather.
