Wally Brine

Wally Brine is retiring from WROR on Dec. 16, after 35 years working with Loren, originally on WVBF.

His father was Salty Brine, who broadcast for 50 years in Providence - and who helped him get his first job at WPRO there.

Mark Watson reports the station let go Tom Doyle, responsible for the parody songs and "Men from Maine" bits on the show and is further slashing humor and music to emphasize unfunny talk, which is dirt cheap, apparently.

Boston Radio Watch reports WODS went all-Christmas, all-the-frickin'-time today, just minutes after traditional Xmas-till-you-drop rival WROR. Both were beaten this year by a Providence station.

For some reason, Korte can't keep away from 105.7, despite a playlist focused on "Crocodile Rock:"

... Why am I listening to 105.7 WLAME, you ask? I am chronic channel-flipper. In spite of the fact that something listenable crosses 105.7 more infrequently than a bright idea crosses President Bush's mind, I keep it in the programmed channels. I guess last week's "Tainted Love" is keeping it afloat. It is almost a queer curiosity now... is 105.7 playing "Tequila Sunrise", or "Benny and the Jets"?

Yechristian relays the news that oldies DJ Austin of Boston (WODS and WROR) died over the weekend:

His real name: Malcolm Soll. WROR reports a scholarship fund has been set up for his youngest son.
