The Dubliner in Center Plaza downtown won't give up its name without a fight - it filed a countersuit today against an older Dubliner pub in Washington, DC that demands it change its name. Read more.

The owners of the Washington pub called the Dubliner today sued the owners of the Government Center pub called the Dubliner for trademark infringement, saying another pub with the same name would confuse consumers, even if they are 430 miles apart, because the Washington pub also has its own brand of Irish whiskey that is for sale in Boston. Boston Restaurant Talk reports the owners of the Kinsale in Government Center and the Asgard in Cambridge have announced the pubs are not coming back, after they shut them at the start of the pandemic, then said they were looking at re-opening them.

Squealing Pig in West Roxbury

Daniel Guzman alerts us that Diarmuid O'Neill is changing the name of his almost eponymous Centre Street restaurant from Eat with Jack O'Neill to the Squealing Pig - the name of the two other restaurants he owns. The mural on the side with the old trolley version of Centre Street and of Dapper O'Neil shaking hands with his former boss James Michael Curley, painted back in the West Roxbury Pub days, remains.

The West Roxbury Bulletin reports the owner of the West Roxbury Pub has sold the place to Diarmuid O'Neill, who plans to remake it into Eat with Jack O'Neill.

The Boston Licensing Board considers the sale at a hearing next Wednesday.

No word on the fate of the James Michael Curley murals that line the four walls of the pub's dining room.

The Boston Licensing Board next week hears a request from the owners of the closed Annabelle's, 1300 Hyde Park Ave., to sell their liquor license to Kevin Twohig, who would use it to convert the place into an establishment called the Briar Rose.

The board's hearings begin at 10 a.m. on Wednesday in its eighth-floor hearing room in City Hall.
