MassDOT reports it's restricting lanes on the I-93 connector ramp in Somerville after "a large vinyl portion" of a billboard there came loose - but can't be removed safely because it's just too windy for workers from Outfront Media to safely climb up to remove all the vinyl. Read more.
Leverett Connector
Enoch Pratt reports this baby bunny was running up the Leverett Connector today when a woman stopped, jumped out and managed to scoop up the bun and get it off the highway.
Matthew Murray captured the engulfed Honda SUV shortly after 2 p.m.
George Lewis got an even closer view shortly before Murray: Read more.
Chris captured firefighters dealing with the blazing car on I-93 around 1:30 p.m.
Shawna Wright drove by the flaming vehicle before the firefighters even got there: Read more.
I-93 shut at Southampton Street for 15 minutes as firefighters rushed to put out the fire in the ammo-filled camper on the northbound side.
Meanwhile, further north, part of the Leverett Connector is cracked. No cause for alarm, turnpike authority says, banning trucks weighing more than 40 tons just to be safe.
Cindy and Jeff give today's blazingly obvious traffic tip: Don't speed on the Leverett Connector/Tobin loop ramps, and you probably won't plunge 70 feet into either sand or gravel.
Car plunges to gravel site from ramp, killing man (although the absolute worst roadway in America for us acrophobes has to be the High Bridges into Charleston, SC - shudder!).
On the one hand, Tim admires the graffiti tagger who has gotten his giant "Syms" on locations that are obviously difficult to reach - such as the side of the I-93 upper deck.
On the other hand, Tim wishes the guy would knock it off already:
... There's a lot of graffiti out there that actually makes things look better. This doesn't. This is just about ego, and Syms should be ashamed rather than proud.
