N spotted this newly unhitched boat inside the O'Neill Tunnel northbound today.

Shortly before 4:45 p.m., a car on the southbound side of I-93 in the tunnel erupted in flames. And that's why the ventilation shaft at Essex Street and Surface Road began belching black smoke.

So far this afternoon, MassDOT reports there was a multi-car crash at the entrance to the O'Neill Tunnel northbound that shut the left lane and an "overheight" tractor trailer that jammed up the entrance to the Callahan Tunnel. Both scenes now clear.

Jessica Dello Russo watched today as state troopers opened up the special Backup of Shame ramp from the Callahan Tunnel entrance to the Greenway today and then guided another big-rig driver slowly backwards up to the street after he realized his truck wasn't going to fit without a haircut.

Why did traffic in the the Tip O’Neill Tunnel NB come to a complete halt for 5+ minutes, then open back up with filled with smoke but no other signs of trouble whatsoever???

A Framingham man already not supposed to drive due to a previous OUI charge led a state trooper on a high-speed chase that started at West 4th Street and Frontage Road and ended in the O'Neill Tunnel northbound, where the trooper clocked him going past 80, swerving from lane to lane all the while, with a broken tail light on his 2003 Cadillac early Wednesday, State Police say. State Police report a dump truck tipped over inside the O'Neill Tunnel northbound, disgorging its load of gravel across three lanes and creating a mess for commuters.

Accident in the 93s tunnel just after the garden. Black sedan collided with Boston commuter bus, then the sedan was t-boned by white pick up after bouncing off the bus.

WBZ interviews the driver of the car out of which a woman jumped in the middle of the O'Neill Tunnel yesterday morning, during a ride from Logan to Mattapan.

WBZ reports the woman suffered life-threatening injuries and that a State Police investigation includes trying to get an answer to the question of why she got out of the ride-share car in the middle of the tunnel.

UPDATE: State Police have identify the dead men as Jerry Alphones, 28, of Everett, on a 2006 Honda CBR600, and Aralt Cesaire, 26, of Medford on a 2004 Suzuki GSX-R600, add: "Speed is believed to have been a factor."
State Police report a ride by several motorcyclists through the O'Neill Tunnel northbound around 2 a.m. ended with two of them crashing and dying. Read more.
