Politico reports (scroll way down for "Yahd Signs and Bumpah Stickahs") that current City Councilor Erin Murphy on Saturday announced endorsements by nine labor unions for her bid to get elected clerk of the Supreme Judicial Court for Suffolk County - in a press release that showed the logos of 49 labor unions and groups, at least one of which says, no, it's not endorsing her this time around. Boston city councilors today condemned what they call an abuse by the state-owned Reggie Lewis Center at Roxbury Crossing: Boston student athletes have to clear out by 3:30 p.m. so busloads of students from well-off suburbs can use its state-of-the-art facilities for training and not get home too late. The City Council today agreed to try to redraw lines for the nine district councilors by May 30, the last day city lawyers say the city can use new maps in time to hold preliminary elections on Sept. 12 and final elections on Nov. 7, in a process that, as has become typical, showed a continued fault line between the council majority and its four most conservative members. The City Council voted overwhelmingly today to fight to keep local control of BPS in the face of possible state receivership, saying a new mayor and a new superintendent deserve a chance to finally bring the sort of change BPS needs and that the last thing Boston - where voters strongly supported an elected school committee in the fall election - needs is an outside commissar screwing things up even more. A Globe/Suffolk University poll shows Michelle Wu and Kim Janey opening big leads in the race to get on the November final ballot. The two men in the race both polled in single digits, with one, John Barros, at just 1.8%, so in addition to electing Boston's first mayor of color, voters in November could also elect our first woman mayor.
