Boston Police report on a series of unrelated arrests Saturday of people wandering around the Caribbean Carnival area with loaded guns, from a 16-year-old and two pals they say had two guns in a backpack - one loaded with 18 bullets - to a man with a gun loaded with seven rounds who was charged with his fourth firearm offense. Javare Sommerville-Adams, 17, up from Providence for the annual Caribbean Carnival, was standing at Blue Hill Avenue and Columbia Road enjoying the celebration on the morning of Aug. 28, 2021 when a man he didn't know standing near him plunged a knife into his neck. Read more.

Eight people were shot on Talbot Avenue near Blue Hill Avenue around 7:45 a.m. as the Jouvert parade, part of the day's Carnival celebration, was passing by. Read more.

Over the past day, rumors have flooded Twitter that the city has canceled the Aug. 25 event because of recent violence, but Jacquelyn Goddard, spokesperson for the Boston Parks and Recreation Department said this afternoon: "The Boston Carnival has not been cancelled."
Sunday's Cambridge Carnival parade crawled down the streets of Kendall Square, with plenty of stops for dancing and singing.
