WFXT reports state officials might have to push back a planned 2022 start for a ten-year program to replace the current Allston/Cambridge turnpike interchange because of mounting opposition to a proposal to build a bridge over the Charles while the work is being done.

People living near the "temporary" Forest Hills T bus depot could probably speak to how temporary "temporary" is around here.

Clarendon on ramp to turnpike

MassDOT reports it will permanently shut the on ramp down to the Massachusetts Turnpike from Clarendon Street on Sept. 3 because hardly anybody uses it and it's really a pretty crappy little on ramp. Read more.

Giant pothole in Pru tunnel

State Police report crews closed off a lane on the Pru exit ramp off the turnpike after this sinkhole erupted but not before, WBZ reports, it chewed its way through the tires of several cars.

The BU News Service reports a proposed 108-unit condo project next to the Hynes and partially over the turnpike will require about 16 months of construction that will affect traffic and that there will be periods where lane capacity on the turnpike there will be cut by 25%.

We're referring, of course, to the guy who drove down the turnpike with the other guy on his hood. Hood guy faced a criminal charge as well. However, the third guy, the one who pulled out his gun at the end of it all, is OK, because he has a license to carry. NECN recounts the action and provides copies of court documents with the two initial guys' conflicting stories.

WBUR reports MassDOT has picked a plan to deal with the decaying elevated Massachusetts Turnpike section in Allston by straightening it out and dropping it to ground level.

To make room for that, the state will then build a new elevated roadway above one side of the turnpike to carry Soldiers Field road, which now runs along the Charles, as part of the $1.1-billion plan.

Kevin Sweeney, 40, of Braintree, was charged today with one count of embezzlement from an agency receiving federal funds and one count of wire fraud in the widening State Police overtime investigation and agreed to plead guilty, the US Attorney's office in Boston reports. Read more.
