"Little Walter" DeVenne, who started broadcasting doo-wop and oldies on the MIT student radio station in 1967 and then just kept going across the Boston radio dial before settling on WODS with "Little Walter's Time Machine," died yesterday from Covid-19, according to a posting on the Boston Radio Interest mailing list. UPDATE: OK, they haven't gone to All Xmas All the Time yet, it's for some contest where they play "one of our many versions 'Santa Clause Is Coming to Town' " and if you're the 20th caller you win just enough money to replace the radio you've flung to the ground in disgust.

Scanning FM in the car just now, I heard Bing Crosby crooning a Christmas song. Yes, Oldies 103.3 has gone into all-Christmas mode just in time for Thanksgiving. Lin Dolin reports 105.7 thinks it's beginning to look a lot like Christmas, too.
Let's all give a big hearty golf clap to WODS for its amazing self-restraint: Last year, they started in on this stuff on Nov. 6.

The Herald reports Oldies 103.3 is replacing Dale Dorman with Bob Lobel. Bob Lobel? Yes, Bob Lobel. He'll be hosting what the station describes as a "very fresh" drivetime show with Karen Blake. No word if it's all talk or if we'll get to hear Lobel introduce the music you grew up with.
