Cape Cod Today harrumphs over evacuations and cancellations on the busy Labor Day Weekend:
Chatham officials urged evacuation due to possible flooding without apparently realizing the storm would hit there a low tide greatly reducing that possibility.
These decisions were made by the wrong people. As a chamber director say to me yesterday, "we have to take these decisions away from people who carry guns."
Channel 5 reports the National Park Service is telling ravens on the Cape: Nevermore. Workers will build fake piping-plover nests in the Cape Cod National Seashore and fill them with hard-boiled chicken eggs laced with crowicide to kill the birds going after endangered plovers.
So far, still alive, although who knows if the great whites or a truck will get him.
Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly reports on a federal judge's anger that prosecutors agreed to dismiss a marijuana-possession case against Atlantic blogger Andrew Sullivan, allegedly caught with pot at the Cape Cod National Seashore - where federal, not state laws apply.
The judge noted the feds were not seeking dismissals against several other, lesser known people who faced the same exact charges the same day and questioned why prosecutors seemed so concerned about the adverse effect a guilty finding would have on Sullivan's immigration status.

Channel 5 alerts us that at least one swimmer down on the Cape seemed determined to recreate the Jaws poster:
... "[The shark] sensed that swimmer in the water from a quarter of a mile away. And we all know that sharks have these extra-sensory ways of seeking their prey and this was visual proof to me," Breen said. ..
In other menacing news, Channel 5 also reports a rogue manhole cover attacked several cars on Rte. 2 in Lincoln this morning.
From the time I was a small child, I was taught to write thank you notes for kindnesses, memorize others’ birthdays and anniversaries, honor the dead, be organized and tidy and evolve into a social creature that takes the time to remember. I think I received my first box of stationery from my mother when I was five. I was reading by three, writing certainly by five, and my mother did take the time to teach me how to write a thank you note. I am still in possession of a few sheets of paper and the lined envelopes my brother’s then girlfriend gave me for my seventeenth birthday.
